Peloponnese Adventure
Corinth Canal - The journey begins at the remarkable Corinth Canal, where the driver shares its fascinating and varied history from ancient times to today.
Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos) - A short drive further into the Peloponnese leads to the well-preserved ruins of Ancient Corinth, a significant and influential city-state of ancient Greece. Walk through its streets, temples, markets, and fountains, following in the footsteps of Classical Greeks, Ancient Romans, and St. Paul. Refreshments and rest stops are available at local cafes near the entrance.
Archaeological Site Mycenae - Next, visit the impressive ruins of Ancient Mycenae, a pivotal site in the development of Ancient Greece. It was home to the citadel of the legendary Agamemnon, leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War. The ‘Mycenaean period,’ from 1600 to 1100 BC, highlights this city’s importance in Greek civilization. Walk through the 20-foot-wide (6-meter) city walls, enter the Lion’s Gate to Agamemnon’s throne room, explore his palace, and visit the awe-inspiring treasury of Atreus. There is also time to explore the modern on-site museum housing precious artifacts from the site.
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus - After a short drive through olive fields and countryside roads, the next stop is the UNESCO-listed Sanctuary of Asklepios, the first healing center of the Ancient World. Visitors can also see the impressive Theatre of Epidaurus, one of Greece’s most visited ancient sites. The temple and theatre date back to the 4th century and are masterpieces of classical Greek architecture. Visitors often test its world-famous acoustics with a poem or a song.
Nafplio - After exploring the morning sites, enjoy lunch in the beautiful medieval and historical port city of Nafplio by the sea, with views of the Venetian castle of Bourtzi in the bay. The city has an artistic feel, so take time to stroll and explore the many local craft shops and boutiques of the charming old city before continuing to a hotel in Olympia, where a specially selected Boutique or 4-Star Hotel awaits.
Discover Ancient Olympia
Archaeological Site of Olympia - The morning is dedicated to Ancient Olympia, one of Greece’s most magical locations. Famous for its ancient Olympic Games, visitors can see where the original athletes trained and competed, and walk through the tunnel to the stadium. The site still houses the Temple of Zeus and Hera, where the Olympic Flame is lit, Phidias’ workshop, and a museum with significant masterpieces from the site.
Rion-Antirion Bridge - After Olympia, travel to the west coast to see one of the world’s longest suspension bridges, a remarkable engineering feat, as it connects the Peloponnese back to the Greek mainland on the way to Delphi.
Nafpaktos Old Port - This stunningly beautiful Venetian port is a perfect lunch stop. Nafpaktos is a little-known village with a medieval charm and fairy-tale vibe, seemingly untouched by tourism. Overlooked by a 15th-century Venetian Castle, it serves as a reminder of its historic importance from the Crusades to the Peloponnesian wars.
Galaxidi - Near the ancient port of Delphi, this beautiful village is ideal for an evening stroll through its pretty streets, cafes, and restaurants with sea views, away from the more touristy feel of Delphi. A warm welcome and amazing local cuisine await.
Delphi. Center of the Ancient World
Delphi - Set on wide terraces along the hillside, Delphi’s ancient remains are well-preserved due to past landslides. Visitors can see the 4th century BC temple of Apollo, where the Oracle delivered prophecies, the Castilian spring, theatre, treasury buildings, temples of Athena, and Gymnasium where athletes gathered before the Pythian games. The modern museum showcases finds dating back to at least 1500 BC, including notable pieces like the Naxos Sphinx, twin Kouroi, and famous Bronze Charioteer.
Monastery of Hosios Loukas - Located in the beautiful countryside on the slopes of Mt Parnassos, this visit includes one of the most important and well-preserved Byzantine Monasteries, which is UNESCO-listed. Explore its 1100-year-old architecture and unique frescoes. This visit is optional.
Arachova - Lunch Stop. Enjoy local craft shops and wonderful views over the olive-filled Pleistos river valley during lunch before returning along the coast road to Athens.
Meteora - EXTRA OPTION WITH METEORA ON REQUEST: With additional travel, it’s possible to visit both Olympia and Delphi on the second day (omitting Arachova and the Monastery in Delphi), then travel to Meteora for the night, allowing the Monasteries there to be included in the tour on the third morning. This schedule adds approximately 5 hours of road travel with a late arrival at Meteora. Please let us know if this option is preferred.
