- Corinth Canal - The Corinth Canal (Greek: Διώρυγα της Κορίνθου, romanized: Dioryga tis Korinthou) is a canal in Greece linking the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Completed in 1893, it traverses the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, dividing the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland. The canal, dug at sea level, features no locks and measures 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) in length and 24.6 meters (80.7 feet) wide at sea level, making it inaccessible to many modern ships. Today, it holds minimal economic significance and primarily serves as a tourist attraction.
- Archaeological Site Mycenae - During the second millennium BC, Mycenae was a prominent center of Greek civilization—a military stronghold that dominated much of southern Greece, Crete, the Cyclades, and parts of southwest Anatolia. The era of Greek history from approximately 1600 BC to 1100 BC is termed Mycenaean, named after Mycenae. At its zenith in 1350 BC, the citadel and lower town housed a population of 30,000 and spanned an area of 32 hectares (79 acres).
- Acrocorinth - Acrocorinth’s fortress, with its reliable water supply, was frequently utilized as a final line of defense in southern Greece, as it controlled the Isthmus of Corinth, preventing enemy access by land into the Peloponnese peninsula.
- Temple of Apollo - Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports / Archaeological Receipts Fund.
The Temple Hill (of Apollo)
The site of ancient Corinth was initially settled during the Neolithic period (6500-3250 B.C.). It is situated at the northern base of the Acrocorinth hill at the location of today’s Ancient Corinth. Its fertile soil and strategic position at the crossroads of land routes from the Balkan peninsula of Aimos and mainland Greece towards the Peloponnese, along with waterways connecting the western Mediterranean to its Eastern counterpart, Asia Minor, and Syro-Palestine, provided the region with significant potential for communication, growth, and prosperity. Visitors will undoubtedly enjoy exploring all the monuments of Ancient Corinth.
