Discover the Archaeological Park of Canne della Battaglia, located in the historic village where Hannibal’s forces famously defeated the Roman army.
The tour begins at the Antiquarium Museum, where visitors can view Roman and medieval artifacts, including amphorae, iron and bronze armor, and pottery with geometric designs from pre-Roman cultures (Daunian-Peucetian). Marvel at items from the 3rd and 4th centuries BC, unearthed from tombs and the Necropolis of Cannae.
The guide will unveil the mysteries of the Battle of Cannae site during the exploration of the archaeological digs, starting with the remnants of the medieval castle, a small fortification offering panoramic views used to oversee the area, and proceeding to the remains of the early Christian Basilica of St. Leucio, which features a semicircular apse, visible traces of ancient flooring, and sections of the original walls that define its historical architecture.
