Smyrna & Pergamon (the Suffering Church and the Compromising Church)
Izmir - The journey begins in Smyrna, known as “the suffering church.” Visitors are encouraged not to fear the trials they may face, as some may be imprisoned to test their faith, enduring challenges for ten days. This city is also the home of the esteemed 2nd-century Bishop Polycarp, who was martyred at the age of 85.
Pergamon Ancient City - The tour continues to Pergamum, referred to as “the compromising church.” Revelation 2:12-16 describes it as “where Satan’s seat is,” alluding to the altar of Zeus. After exploring, guests will return to Izmir and spend the night in either Pergamon or Izmir.
Thyatira-Sardes-Philadelphia (the Adulterous Church, the Dead Church, the Faithful Church)
Akhisar - The next stop is Thyatira, labeled “the adulterous church” in Revelations for tolerating false prophets like Jezebel (Rev. 1:11; 2:18-29).
Sardis (Sardes) - The journey proceeds to Sardes, known as “the dead church,” another of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Jesus remarked to Sardes, “I know thy works, that thou hast a name, that thou livest, and art dead” (Rev. 3:1-6).
Pamukkale and Laodicean Church
Pamukkale - Upon arrival in Pamukkale, visitors will explore the ruins of ancient Hierapolis. There will be a brief pause for photography before continuing to the well-preserved Roman theater. Guests can visit the Necropolis, a graveyard with over two thousand graves. Passing by the Roman baths, they will reach the Ancient Pool, where they can enjoy swimming in warm spring water. Alternatively, they can walk barefoot down the Travertines, filled with calcium-rich thermal water.
Laodicea - Laodicea is the church criticized for being lukewarm, “You are neither cold nor hot” (Rev. 3:15), and for blending pagan and Christian beliefs too comfortably. After the tour, guests will transfer to Kusadasi for an overnight stay.
Ephesus, Virgin Mary, and Church of St. John
Ancient City of Ephesus - The tour includes a visit to Ephesus, “the loveless church,” the most significant of the seven churches.
Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - This is the house where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her final years.
The Basilica of Saint John - Also known as the Church of St. John the Theologian. After the tour, guests can be transferred back to Izmir airport.
