Entering the Stable
In the morning, you will meet your guide and enter an authentic sumo stable, a venue typically not open to the public, where professional sumo wrestlers engage in daily training. Once inside, you will sit respectfully and quietly to watch the practice unfold right before your eyes.
Observing Morning Training (Approximately 90–120 minutes)
During this session, you will witness the wrestlers complete a full morning routine, which generally includes:
- Stretching and warm-ups — wrestlers preparing their bodies for training
- Basic sumo movements — such as shiko (leg stomps) and suriashi (foot-sliding steps)
- Butsukari geiko and other contact drills — vigorous pushing practice
- Practice bouts (“mōshiai”) — wrestlers testing each other in practice matches
These scenes highlight the rigorous and disciplined nature of their daily training, offering a rare glimpse into their preparation away from public tournaments and ceremonies.
