Jantar Mantar - Jaipur - Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is considered the largest of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. It features sixteen geometric devices designed to measure time, track celestial bodies, and observe planetary orbits. The Interpretation Centre helps tourists understand the observatory’s working principles and chronology.
Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind - Constructed in 1799 by the poet king Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal served as a summer retreat for the royal family and a place for the royal ladies to observe daily life without being seen. This unique five-story structure combines Hindu and Islamic architecture, and its exterior, with small latticed windows (jharokhas), resembles Lord Krishna’s crown.
Nahargarh Fort - Perched on a ridge of the Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort provides a striking northern backdrop to Jaipur. Built during Jai Singh’s reign in 1734 and expanded in 1868, Nahargarh, meaning “abode of tigers,” was a formidable defense against enemies. The fort is spectacular when illuminated at night, offering a glittering view of the city lights.

Birla Mandir Temple - Known as the Lakshmi-Narayan Temple, or more popularly as the Birla Temple, it is located at the base of Moti Dungari. Built on an elevated platform, this modern temple, constructed entirely of white marble, dominates the south Jaipur skyline. Commissioned by the renowned Indian industrialists, the Birlas, in 1988, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, also known as Narayan, and his consort, Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and fortune. The temple is a masterpiece with exquisite carvings and sculptures depicting various mythological themes.
Jal Mahal - One of Jaipur’s most enchanting sights is the beautiful Jal Mahal or Lake Palace. The light, sand-colored stone walls contrast beautifully with the deep blue water. The palace appears to float in the center of Man Sagar Lake, where tourists can admire its magnificent exteriors.
Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan - Located just off the Jaipur-Amber road, Gaitore is where the former Maharajas of Jaipur are entombed. The chhatris (cenotaphs), crafted from white marble, showcase the distinctive Rajput architectural style. The open pavilions with ornate domes are supported by intricately sculpted pillars. The crematorium is set amidst yellow sandstone hills. The décor and grandeur of a chattri reflect the ruler’s stature and prowess. The most elegant and beautiful chattri at Gaitor is that of Maharaja Jai Singh, featuring 20 carved pillars. Tourists are particularly drawn to its intricate carvings.
Sisodia Rani Palace and Garden - Located 8 kilometers from Jaipur on the Agra road, Sisodia Rani Palace and Garden is designed in Mughal style and adorned with the legends of Radha and Krishna. The garden is multi-tiered, featuring fountains, watercourses, and painted pavilions. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built it for his Sisodia queen.
Galtaji Temple - Galtaji is an ancient pilgrimage site in Jaipur. Nestled amidst low hills and bustling with locals and tourists, this attractive spot features temples, pavilions, and holy kunds (natural springs and water tanks). Visitors will encounter the Ramgopalji temple complex, locally known as the Monkey Temple (Galwar Bagh), due to a large group of resident monkeys. The lush landscape and chattering monkeys enhance the area’s charm. Atop the hill is a small temple dedicated to the sun god, called the Surya Mandir, constructed by Diwan Kriparam, visible from anywhere in the city.
Jawahar Circle Garden - Celebrated as the largest circular park in Asia, Jawahar Circle is surrounded by a rose garden and offers several concentric jogging tracks, benches, and lush greenery. While the beautifully landscaped plantations and green areas are awe-inspiring, the park’s main attraction is the Musical Fountain. The fountain creates spectacular shows with over 270 effects and more than 300 colorful lights.
Albert Hall Museum - Named after The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which inspired its design, the exquisitely built Albert Hall is located in the center of Ram Niwas Garden. Sir Swinton Jacob, the mastermind behind many other palaces in Rajasthan, conceptualized and designed it using Indo-Saracenic architectural styles. The Prince of Wales laid the building’s foundation stone in 1876. The museum showcases a wide range of metal objects, wood crafts, carpets, stone and metal sculptures, arms and weapons, natural stones, and ivory goods. It also houses a large collection of miniatures from Bundi, Kota, Kishangarh, Udaipur, and Jaipur schools of art.

This complex consists of four major and several minor palaces that collectively form the magnificent City Palace. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum displaying artifacts.
Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace - Located just outside Udaipur, this 19th-century palace is perched atop Bansdara hills. Originally intended as an astronomical center by its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, it served as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge. The plan was abandoned due to Maharana Sajjan Singh’s untimely death. It remains an awe-inspiring sight on the Udaipur skyline, offering spectacular views of the city and its surroundings.
Jagdish Temple - An exemplary Indo-Aryan architectural style, Jagdish Temple was built in 1651 and remains one of the most renowned temples in and around Udaipur. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the structure is an architectural marvel with carved pillars, graceful ceilings, and painted walls. This three-storied temple was constructed by Maharana Jagat Singh I.
Fateh Sagar Lake - This charming lake, bordered by hills and woodlands, lies north of Lake Pichola. This artificial lake is connected to Lake Pichola by a canal. The lake features the beautiful Nehru Island and an islet housing the Udaipur Solar Observatory. It was inaugurated by the Duke of Connaught and was initially called Connaught Bundh.
Sahelion Ki Bari - Built by Maharana Sangram Singh II as a garden for women, Saheliyon-ki-Bari, or the Garden of the Maidens, is a popular tourist destination. Along with a small museum, it boasts several attractions, including marble elephants, fountains, kiosks, and a lotus pool.
Shilpgram - Located 7 km west of Udaipur near Lake Fateh Sagar is the Centre’s Shilpgram - the Rural Arts and Crafts Complex. Spread over 70 acres and surrounded by the Aravallis, the Rural Arts and Crafts Complex is conceived as a living museum to depict the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people of the west zone.
Bagore Ki Haveli Museum - Bagore-ki-Haveli is situated by Lake Pichola, at Gangaur Ghat. Built in the 18th century by Amar Chand Badwa, the Prime Minister of Mewar, the massive palace has over a hundred rooms displaying costumes and modern art. The glass and mirrors in the interiors are structured in classical haveli style.
Visit Kumbhalgarh and Back to Udaipur
Kumbhalgarh Fort - Known for having the second-largest wall after the Great Wall of China, Kumbhalgarh Fort in Rajasthan is a historical marvel. The mighty fort stands 3600 ft tall and 38 km long, surrounding the Udaipur area. It is believed to have been built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan group, strategically located on the western Aravalli hills.
Having witnessed numerous wars, the hill serves as an unbreakable boundary. The fort features seven fortified gateways and several Jain temples, along with the Lakhola Tank, the most famous tank inside the fort, constructed by Rana Lakha. The fort contains numerous Hindu and Jain temples, reflecting the rulers’ religious tolerance and their patronage of Jain culture in the kingdom.
