Delhi - Jaipur

Jaipur - Travel to Jaipur in a private, air-conditioned car. Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is also known as the “Pink City.” It owes its name, foundation, and planning to the esteemed warrior and astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II. The city boasts wide avenues and is situated on a dry lake bed in a rugged, somewhat arid landscape, surrounded by barren hills topped with fortresses and crenellated walls. Upon arrival, check into the pre-booked hotel.

City Palace of Jaipur - After lunch (at your own expense), explore the City Palace of Jaipur, a renowned landmark and major tourist attraction. Built during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, it features magnificent architecture and artwork that distinguish it from other fortifications in Jaipur. The City Palace spans a vast area and includes numerous courtyards, gardens, and buildings within its walls.

Jantar Mantar - Jaipur - The Jantar Mantar monument in Jaipur is a UNESCO World Heritage site comprising nineteen exquisite astronomical instruments. Constructed by the renowned Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh and completed in 1738 CE, it houses the world’s largest stone sundial. This architectural marvel showcases an incredible feat of engineering that continues to amaze visitors worldwide.

Jaipur - Agra

Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind - The Hawa Mahal, a palace of winds built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh, is Jaipur’s most famous landmark. It was designed to provide the royal household with an excellent view of everyday life in the city. This stunning structure features tier upon tier of curved arches surmounting delicate casements adorned with intricate “jali” latticework screens.

Jal Mahal - Located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, Jal Mahal is an extraordinary example of Rajput culture. Built with red sandstone, this five-story building was renovated and expanded by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber during the 18th century.

Amber Fort - Visit Amber Fort en route and witness the façade of Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds. Amber Fort was the ancient capital of the state until 1727 when Jai Singh decided to relocate from his hillside fortress at Amber to a new site on the plains. The construction of this fort began in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, the Rajput commander of Akbar’s army. The fort is a superb example of Rajput architecture, beautifully situated on a hillside and overlooking a lake that reflects its terraces and ramparts. Visit the Jagmandir or the hall of victory glittering with mirrors, Jal Mahal & temple of Kali.

Agra - In the afternoon, drive to Agra (240 km | approx. 5 hours drive) with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri - On the way to Agra, visit the Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar in 1569. It was the old capital of the Mughals, abandoned after 15 years due to water scarcity. See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal, and other palaces, which are still preserved in their original glory. Continue driving to Agra. Upon arrival, check into the pre-booked hotel.

Agra - Delhi

Taj Mahal - Visit the highlight of the tour, The Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan for his beloved Begum Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of the mausoleum began in 1633 CE, with 20,000 workers laboring for 17 years to complete it. The most skilled architects, inlay craftsmen, calligraphers, stone-carvers, and masons came from all across India and as far as Persia and Turkey. The building is Mumtaz Mahal’s final resting place and was adorned like a queen’s jewel box. Spend the morning immersed in the romance of the Taj Mahal! There will be plenty of time to admire this amazing monument from all angles. Take pictures and listen as your guide shares the history and architecture of the monument.

Agra Fort - Spend an hour exploring the 2.5 km long Agra Fort. Considered the predecessor to Delhi’s Red Fort, enjoy the maze of courtyards, mosques, palaces, gardens, and halls of the fort, which echo the story of the Mughal Empire. The imposing exteriors of the fort conceal what is truly an inner paradise. As you walk around the Agra Fort, admire the exquisite buildings like Moti Masjid, a white marble mosque akin to a perfect pearl, the Diwan-I-Am, the Diwan-I-Khaas, the Musamman Burj where Shahjahan died in 1666 CE, and the beautiful palaces: Jahangir’s Palace, Khaas Mahal, and Shish Mahal.
