• Selamat Datang Monument - This monument features two figures, a young man and a young woman, extending a welcome. The young woman holds a floral arrangement, symbolizing hospitality. Situated in Central Jakarta, it is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
• Merdeka Square - Merdeka Square serves as a central hub in Jakarta, surrounded by numerous government buildings including ministry offices, the presidential office, and the National Monument, which stands at its center.
• National Monument (MONAS) - The National Monument, located in the heart of Merdeka Square, is a 132-meter tall structure topped with a gold-leaf flame, representing the nation’s independence. It is a major highlight of Jakarta. The monument’s basement features an exhibit of 48 dioramas that illustrate Indonesia’s history from prehistoric times to the present. (Note: The National Monument is closed every Monday, but the exterior can still be visited.)
• Jakarta Cathedral - Situated on Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara, this Gothic-style cathedral was built in 1891. It boasts a high tower and tall windows adorned with stained glass. Inside, there are three altars arranged in a semi-circle and an old altar that has excellent acoustics.
• Istiqlal Mosque - Located in central Jakarta, near the National Cathedral, Istiqlal Mosque is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the sixth largest in the world by capacity. The name ‘Istiqlal’ means ‘Independence’ in Arabic. The mosque symbolizes peace and religious tolerance. (Note: Istiqlal Mosque is closed every Friday.)

• Jakarta Old Town - Once the center of Dutch colonial rule, Jakarta Old Town, or Batavia, features former governor’s offices, banks, hospitals, post offices, and courthouses, now converted into museums. The area exudes a Dutch architectural style, making it feel reminiscent of Amsterdam.
• Sunda Kelapa Harbour - Located at the head of Batavia, Sunda Kelapa Harbour is Jakarta’s old port. Along the way, you’ll see the old 17th-century drawbridge. This harbor was first used by the Portuguese and Dutch upon their arrival in Indonesia.
