• National Monument (MONAS) - The National Monument, known in Indonesian as Monumen Nasional or Monas, stands as a 132-meter (433-foot) obelisk at the heart of Merdeka Square in Central Jakarta. This monument serves as the national symbol of the Republic of Indonesia, honoring the nation’s fight for independence. Topped with a flame covered in gold leaf, it represents the enduring spirit of the Indonesian people’s struggle.
• Istiqlal Mosque - Once the site of Wilhelmina Park and a 19th-century fortification called Citadel, this mosque is the largest in Southeast Asia and ranks as the ninth largest in the world by worshipper capacity.
• Jakarta Cathedral - Known as Gereja Katedral Jakarta in Indonesian and Kathedraal van Jakarta in Dutch, this Latin Catholic cathedral is located in Jakarta, Indonesia, and serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Jakarta, currently Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo. Officially named Gereja Santa Maria Diangkat ke Surga, its original Dutch name is De Kerk van Onze Lieve Vrouwe ten Hemelopneming (The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption). The current cathedral, built in the neo-Gothic style, was consecrated in 1901, a popular architectural style for churches at that time.
• Proclamation Monument - Taman Proklamasi, also known as the Proclamation Monument or Proclamation Park, is located at Jalan Pegangsaan Timur 56 in central Jakarta. This site was once the residence of Sukarno, Indonesia’s first President.
• Dharma Bhakti Temple - Jakarta boasts over 140 Chinese temples, with the oldest being the temple at Petak Sembilan in Jakarta’s Chinatown, commonly referred to as Glodok. Originally constructed in 1650 by Chinese lieutenant Kwee Hoen, it was named Koan Im Teng in honor of the goddess Kwan Im. Throughout its history, this Taoist temple has undergone several name changes. It was destroyed during the 1740 Chinese massacre by the Dutch but was rebuilt in 1755 by Chinese captain Oei Tjhie, who renamed it Kim Tek Le or Jin De Yuan (meaning golden wisdom). Later, its name was translated into Bahasa Indonesia as Vihara Dharma Bhakti.
• Sunda Kelapa Harbour - Sunda Kalapa, the historic port of Jakarta, is situated at the mouth of the Ciliwung River. Originally named “Sunda Kalapa,” it served as the main port of the Sunda Kingdom. Located in the Penjaringan District of North Jakarta, Indonesia, the port now accommodates pinisi, traditional two-masted wooden sailing ships that provide inter-island freight services in the archipelago. Although it is now a minor port, Sunda Kelapa played a crucial role in Jakarta’s development and remains a significant part of its history. The port is currently managed by the state-owned Indonesia Port.
• Jakarta Old Town - Kota Tua Jakarta, meaning “Jakarta Old Town” in Indonesian, is officially known as Kota Tua. This neighborhood encompasses the original downtown area of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is also referred to as Oud Batavia (Dutch for “Old Batavia”), Benedenstad (“Lower City”), contrasting with Weltevreden, de Bovenstad (“Upper City”), or Kota Lama (Indonesian for “Old Town”).
