Facing the Catholic Cathedral is Jakarta’s main place of Muslim worship, the modernistic Mesjid Istiqlal, constructed under Soekarno and reputedly the largest mosque in Southeast Asia. The Cathedral church was built in 1891.
• Istiqlal Mosque - Visit the Istiqlal Mosque.
• Proclamation Monument - Continue the day tour to the Jakarta Monument Proclamation monument on Jalan Proklamasi, Central Jakarta. The monument was constructed on the site of the Indonesian Proclamation of Independence on August 17, 1945. It features a statue of Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, reading the Proclamation of Independence alongside vice president Mohammad Hatta.
