The Appleton Estate, a historic sugar estate and distillery in Jamaica, has been expertly crafting rums since 1749. They offer a diverse range of aged rums, along with classic gold and white rums. Situated in the heart of Jamaica’s sugar cane region, it stands as the oldest sugar estate and distillery in the country. The estate’s sugar cane is harvested both by machinery and traditionally by workers using machetes.

Visiting this plantation is like stepping back in time, witnessing the traditional methods of milling cane for juice and producing rum and sugar, alongside modern techniques. Guests can view a 10-minute video showcasing the entire process before starting the tour. Sampling the sugar cane by-products—juice, molasses, wet sugar, and the various rum flavors—is a highlight for many visitors. After spending around 2 hours at the estate, the tour concludes, and it’s time to move on to the next attraction.

YS was initially a cane farm with a factory and also supplied log wood for export to Europe. Simon Browne, the current owner, opened YS Falls to the public in 1992, fulfilling his lifelong dream. Although he initially intended to allow only 25 visitors per day, the falls’ popularity exceeded expectations. He now carefully manages visitor numbers to preserve YS’s natural beauty. The tour begins with a short ride on a jitney, pulled by a tractor through fields and across the river to this secluded paradise.

Visitors can enjoy the cool, refreshing waterfalls, climb to different levels, swing on a rope, or simply relax on a stone and enjoy the water. There are pools for both adults and children, ziplining opportunities, or guests can sit on the deck and watch hummingbirds feed. After approximately 2 hours, it’s time to change into dry clothes, board the bus, and prepare for the return trip to Montego Bay.
