Hamdeok Beach - As you stroll along Jeju Olle Course 19, you’ll encounter Hamdeok Beach, a place with an emerald jewel-like sea. Situated in Hamdeok-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, it’s also known as ‘Hamdeok Seoubong Beach’ due to the nearby Seoubong Peak. Just 20km from Jeju Airport, it feels like a different world upon arrival. The tall palm trees at the entrance, the emerald sea contrasting with the white sand, and the clear water with transparent sand and seaweed create a stunning scene. Among Jeju Island’s many beaches, Hamdeok Beach, along with Hyeopjae and Gimnyeong Beaches, is renowned for its beautiful sea color. The clear, shallow waters make it an ideal summer spot for families. An overpass on the west side allows for a unique experience of walking over the sea.
Woljeongri Beach - 월정리 해변 (Woljeong-ri Beach)
Famous for its stunning scenery, white sand, and emerald waters, Jeju’s Woljeong-ri Beach is lined with tea houses and coffee shops. It’s a perfect stop during a Jeju Island trip, offering an exotic view.
Seongsan Ilchulbong - 성산일출봉 (Seongsan Ilchulbong)
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, a landmark of Jeju, formed around 5,000 years ago from an underwater volcanic eruption. It’s especially famous for sunrise views, considered one of Jeju Island’s top ten scenic spots. Besides sunrise viewing, it’s a great trekking location. The Seongsan-Ojo Trail connects two villages across the peak, while the Jijil Trail offers a closer look at the UNESCO-designated geopark and Jeju’s local culture. Walking these trails is recommended to fully experience the area; reaching the summit provides views of the vast volcanic crater and the surrounding ocean. To complete your visit, head to Seongsanpo Port to watch the haenyeo (female divers) at work.
Seopjikoji - 섭지코지 (Seopjikoji)
A short drive from Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak leads to Cape Seopjikoji. The name, from the Jeju dialect, means “Cape of Small Land,” referring to its unique cliff formation jutting into the ocean. The picturesque blend of hill and ocean attracts tourists year-round. You might even spot Jeju ponies grazing on the grassy fields. Walking northeast along the cliff, you’ll reach Bulgeunoreum Parasitic Cone, offering a stunning view of a white lighthouse against the dark blue sea. Notable attractions at Cape Seopjikoji include the Glasshouse and Yumin Art Gallery, designed by renowned architect Ando Tadao, blending beautifully with the natural surroundings.
Seongeup Folk Village - 성읍민속마을 (Seongeup Folk Village)
This village, preserving the traditional lifestyle of old Jeju, is designated as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage. Unlike typical folk villages, it remains inhabited. Residents volunteer as guides, providing visitors with valuable information. The Saw-leaf Zelkova and Japanese hackberry trees in the village center are worth seeing.
Sangumburi Crater - 산굼부리 (Sangumburi Crater)
Sangumburi Crater stands out from Jeju’s 360+ parasitic cones as it wasn’t formed by stacked eruption materials. Instead, it’s a maar-type cone with a crater formed by ejected materials. The inner area spans 300,000㎡, with a bottom circumference of 756m and an exterior circumference of 2,070m. The nearly vertical crater is about 130m tall, slightly larger and deeper than Hallasan Mountain. In autumn, the crater’s ridges turn golden with silvergrass, while cedar dominates the eastern and western slopes, surrounded by Sawtooth oak. Korean Fir forms a forest path, and Eulalia grass covers large patches of the crater. The best time to visit Sangumburi is from September to November.
Haenyeo Museum - Jeju haenyeo are the resilient mothers of Jeju and the spiritual pillars of its residents. Their community life serves as a model for humanity. Jeju haenyeo formed a merit-based community, making democratic decisions through discussions. They cared for the elderly and infirm, raised funds for societal contributions, and devised ways to coexist with the sea. Jeju haenyeo culture was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 30, 2016. If Manjanggul Cave is closed (on the first Wednesday of every month), the Jeju Haenyeo Museum is offered as an alternative tour.
Eco Land Theme Park - Located in Gyorae Gotjawal, Eco Land Theme Park is a mysterious forest where northern and southern limit plants coexist due to its high heat retention and moisturizing effect. The forest’s life force covers the rock and blocks the sky, creating a paradise for animals and plants. Enjoy a 4.5km train journey to experience the insects, animals, and various plants in Gotjawal’s mysterious forest. The park teaches the infinite benefits nature provides, cherishing even a single blade of grass. It aims to be a bridge connecting humans and nature. In the volcanic land of stones and rocks, roots stretch long in rock crevices to find light.
Jeju Island - A stunning location where a K-drama was filmed, Jeju is perfect for couples or families to take photos and enjoy a leisurely walk.
West & South of Jeju Island
Jeongbang Waterfall - 정방폭포 (Jeongbangpokpo Falls)
Seogwipo, covering Jeju’s southern half, enjoys abundant sunshine and warm temperatures, attracting tourists year-round. Jeongbangpokpo Falls, one of Jeju Island’s top three waterfalls, is a popular attraction. The water cascades 23 meters down a cliff into a pool before flowing to the sea. Behind the falls, Waljong Art Gallery showcases the works of Korean artist Lee Wal Jong, who settled in Jeju decades ago. His inspiring artworks capture Jeju’s beauty uniquely. The gallery’s strategic location and glass-walled second floor offer stunning sea views.
Oedolgae - 외돌개 (Oedolgae)
Oedolgae, the starting point of Jeju Olle Trail Course 7, is a 20m high stone pillar rising from the sea. Named ‘Oedolgae,’ it’s also called ‘General Stone’ and ‘Grandma Rock.’ Legend has it that General Choi Yeong decorated this rock like a general during a battle against the Yuan Dynasty, causing the enemy to self-destruct. The name ‘Grandma Rock’ has its own legend. Beyond the visible rocks, the life of Jeju people waiting for the sea’s bounty is evident.
Yongmeori Coast - 용머리해안 (Yongmeori Coast)
Yongmeori Coast is named for its resemblance to a dragon diving into the ocean with its head raised (‘Yong’ means dragon, ‘Meori’ means head in Korean). It’s a sandstone bed formed by layers of sand deposited over tens of millions of years. The coast’s mysterious scenery is awe-inspiring. At its foot is a Hamel Monument, established by the Netherlands Embassy and the Korean Foundation on April 1, 1980, to strengthen diplomatic ties and honor Hendrick Hamel’s dedication. If weather prevents entry to Yongmeori Coast, Mt. Songak is an alternative location.
O’sulloc Tea Museum - Adjacent to the Seogwang tea field in Jeju, the Osulloc Tea Museum, opened in 2001 by AMOREPACIFIC, is Korea’s first tea museum. It promotes tea and Korean traditional tea culture, harmonizing East and West, tradition and modernity. The museum includes a tea museum, a nature-friendly rest area, and a cafe offering delicious tea-based menus.
Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road - Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road
Located on Jeju Island’s northwest side, Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road features a distinctive offshore wind farm. The white windmills and emerald waters along the winding shoreline exemplify the autumn landscape and eco-friendly electricity generation. It’s one of Jeju’s most beautiful sunset spots, so bring a camera! An Ecological Experience Center walking course is also available. The observation deck along the course offers a convenient place to rest and enjoy the view. Walking the Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road promises pleasant memories and photo opportunities.
Songaksan Mountain - 송악산 (Songaksan Mountain’s peak)
Songaksan Mountain’s peak, a cinder cone within the crater and its tuff ring, has a depth of 69m and retains its active form. Once known only to archaeologists, it’s now part of a popular tour course with many narrow paths. Songaksan Mountain served as Japan’s forward base during its invasion of China and the last line of defense in WWII’s final hours. Ruins of airfields, hangars, and anti-aircraft artillery are scattered throughout, with 15 coastal trenches below the cliff, some naturally decomposed and posing hazards. If weather prevents entry to Yongmeori Coast, Mt. Songak is an alternative location.
Hyeopjae Beach - Hyeopjae Beach, near Hallim Park, is 32 km west of Jeju City. The white sandy beach, mixed with shell powder, Biyangdo Island in the front sea, the cobalt-colored sea, and the dense pine forest create a beautiful scene. The beach is about 200m long, 60m wide, with an average water depth of 1.2m and a slope of 3-8 degrees. Its shallow depth and gentle slope make it ideal for families. Various facilities are available, and camping is possible in the pine forest. The southwest coast connects to Geumneung Beach, and locals refer to both as Hyeopjae Beach.
Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff - 주상절리 (Jusangjeolli Cliff)
Jeju Jungmun Resort boasts beautiful natural scenery and numerous entertainment and convenience facilities for both domestic and international tourists. Jusangjeolli Cliff, near the International Convention Center Jeju, offers a breathtaking view with its massive rock pillars lining the coastline.
