- Hamdeok Beach - As you stroll along Jeju Olle Course 19, you’ll encounter Hamdeok Beach, renowned for its emerald waters. Situated in Hamdeok-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, it’s also known as ‘Hamdeok Seoubong Beach’ due to Seoubong Peak standing nearby. Just 20km from Jeju Airport, it feels like a different world upon arrival. The entrance is lined with tall palm trees, and the emerald sea contrasts beautifully with the white sand. The clear water and white waves make even the sand and seaweed appear transparent. Among Jeju Island’s many beaches, Hamdeok Beach, along with Hyeopjae and Gimnyeong Beaches, is noted for its stunning sea color. The shallow, clear waters make it an ideal summer spot for families. An overpass on the west side allows for a unique experience of walking over the sea.
- Haenyeo Museum - The Jeju haenyeo are revered as the strong mothers and spiritual pillars of Jeju residents. Their community life serves as a model for humanity, characterized by merit-based cooperation and democratic decision-making. They cared for the elderly and infirm, such as Halmang Badang and Geseok, and used their earnings to support society, including villages and schools. They also devised various methods to coexist with the sea, like beach sweeping and gold snatching. Recognized for its cultural value, Jeju haenyeo culture was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 30, 2016.
- Seongsan Ilchulbong - Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, a prominent Jeju landmark, was formed around 5,000 years ago from an underwater volcanic eruption. It’s especially famous for sunrise views, ranking among Jeju Island’s top ten scenic spots. Besides sunrise viewing, it’s a popular trekking destination. The Seongsan-Ojo Trail connects two villages across the peak, while the Jijil Trail offers a closer look at the UNESCO-designated geopark and local culture. Walking these trails is recommended to fully experience the area, with the summit offering views of the vast volcanic crater and surrounding ocean. To complete your visit, head to Seongsanpo Port to watch the haenyeo (female divers) in action.
- Jeongbang Waterfall - Seogwipo, covering Jeju’s southern half, enjoys abundant sunshine and warm temperatures, attracting tourists year-round. A popular attraction is Jeongbangpokpo Falls, one of Jeju Island’s top three waterfalls. The water cascades 23 meters down a cliff into a pool before flowing to the sea. Behind the falls is Waljong Art Gallery, dedicated to Korean artist Lee Wal Jong, who settled in Jeju decades ago. The gallery showcases his inspiring artworks, capturing Jeju’s beauty uniquely. Its strategic location and glass-walled second floor offer stunning sea views.
- Oedolgae - Oedolgae, the starting point of Jeju Olle Trail Course 7, is a 20m high stone pillar rising from the sea. Named ‘Oedolgae,’ it’s also known as ‘General Stone’ and ‘Grandma Rock.’ Legend has it that General Choi Yeong decorated this rock like a general to deceive the Yuan Dynasty, leading to their self-destruction. The name ‘Grandma Rock’ has its own legend. These stone pillars, believed to have formed during a volcanic eruption, are scientifically termed sea stacks. Pine trees naturally grow atop Oedolgae, creating a picturesque scene. Depending on the viewing angle, it presents different appearances, showcasing nature’s beauty.
- Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff - The columnar joints near the coast in the eastern Jungmun Tourist Complex, where waves crash against dark red hexagonal stones forming tall layers, are a natural wonder designated as Natural Monument No. 443 (12/27/04). Standing before the joints, you can witness waves breaking into white bubbles, evoking the stories of stone carvers. The scenery is breathtaking, with waves reaching heights of about 20m during turbulence. This site is increasingly popular with tourists who enjoy the stunning views and the fresh sea breeze.
- Yongmeori Coast - Yongmeori Coast is named for its resemblance to a dragon diving into the ocean with its head raised (‘Yong’ means dragon and ‘Meori’ means head in Korean). It’s a sandstone bed formed by layers of sand deposited over tens of millions of years. The coast’s mysterious scenery leaves visitors in awe. At its base is the Hamel Monument, established by the Netherlands Embassy and the Korean Foundation on April 1, 1980, to strengthen diplomatic ties and honor Hendrick Hamel’s dedication.
- O’sulloc Tea Museum - The Osulloc Tea Museum, adjacent to the Seogwang tea field in Jeju, is Korea’s first tea museum, opened in 2001 by AMOREPACIFIC to promote tea and Korean traditional tea culture. It harmonizes East and West, tradition and modernity, featuring a tea museum, a nature-friendly rest area, and a cafe offering delicious tea-based menus.
- Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road - Located on Jeju Island’s northwest side, Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road is marked by an offshore wind farm. The white windmills and emerald waters along the winding shoreline exemplify the autumn landscape and eco-friendly electricity generation. It’s one of Jeju’s most beautiful sunset spots, so bring your camera! An Ecological Experience Center walking course is also available, with an observation deck midway for rest and scenic enjoyment. Walking along this road promises pleasant memories and photo opportunities.
- Seongeup Folk Village - Seongeup Village, once the center of Jeonguihyeon for 500 years, holds historical significance. Originally located in Seongsan-eup Goseong-ri, it was moved due to administrative challenges and frequent typhoon damage. The village was completed with a circumference of 2,986 Cheok and three gates on Sejong in 5 January 13. According to “Tamna Sullyeokdo” of Sukchong 28 year (1702) Lee Hyung-sang Moksa, it was a thriving city fortress with farmland.
- Seopjikoji - A short drive from Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak leads to Cape Seopjikoji. Its name, from the Jeju dialect, means ‘Cape of Small Land,’ reflecting its unique cliff formation. The harmonious blend of hill and ocean attracts tourists year-round. Jeju ponies may be seen grazing on the grassy fields. Walking northeast along the cliff, you’ll reach Bulgeunoreum Parasitic Cone, offering a stunning view of a white lighthouse against the dark blue sea. Notable attractions include the Glasshouse and Yumin Art Gallery, designed by renowned architect Ando Tadao, blending seamlessly with nature.
- Suwolbong Peak - The sunset view from this volcanic cone rivals that of Sarabong Volcanic Cone. From Suwolbong Peak’s observatory, visitors can see Chagwido Island, Songaksan Mountain, Dansan Mountain, and Jukdo Island, and even observe Sarabong with binoculars. Suwolbong is associated with the Nokdumul legend, a tale of sibling love for their parents. According to the legend, siblings Nokgo and Suwol sought 100 herbs to cure their mother’s illness, but the last herb, Acanthopanax senticosus, grew on Suwolbong Peak’s cliff. Suwol, the sister, climbed the cliff to harvest it.
- Sanbangsan Mountain - Sanbangsan Mountain is a trachytic tuff lava dome connected to the Yongmeori Coast’s sedimentary layer in Sagye-ri, Andeok-myeon. This bell-shaped tholoid stands prominently in southwest Jeju’s plains, visible from afar. Encircled by Ilju Road, connecting Moseulpo Port and Hwasun-ri, it features well-maintained stairs for tourists to climb to Sanbanggulsa Grotto on Namsa-myeon’s southern face. To reach the summit, use the trail behind Sanbangsan Mountain leading to Deoksu-ri, Yonghae-dong.
