Haenyeo Museum - If Manjanggul Lava Tube is closed (the first Wednesday of every month), the Jeju Haenyeo Museum serves as an alternative tour option. “Haenyeo” refers to the female divers in Korea who collect seaweed, abalone, octopus, clams, sea urchins, and other marine products. This term embodies a unique lifestyle beyond just a profession. Today, they can only be found on Jeju Island, an hour’s flight from Seoul, Korea.
Seongsan Ilchulbong - Featuring a Women Diver Show, Seongsan Ilchulbong, also known as ‘Sunrise Peak’, is a classic tuff cone formed by hydrovolcanic eruptions on a shallow seabed around 5,000 years ago. Located on Jeju Island’s eastern coast, it resembles a massive ancient castle. This 182-meter-high tuff cone has a well-preserved bowl-like crater and showcases various inner structures due to the sea cliff.
Seopjikoji - Situated at the eastern tip of Jeju Island, Seopjikoji offers breathtaking views, especially in April when yellow canola flowers bloom. “Seopji” is the area’s old name, and “Koji” in Jeju dialect means a sudden land bump. Seopjikoji can be replaced with Sangumburi in October and November.
Sangumburi Crater - Visit Sangumburi Crater in October and November as an alternative to Seopjikoji. These months are ideal for visiting.
Seongeup Folk Village - This traditional village on Jeju Island has been preserved as it was in ancient times, with impressive stone piles protecting roofs from the wind. The buildings are designated as important folk relics, as these castles and homes, built to prevent a Japanese invasion, have remained intact since the Joseon Dynasty. The Folk Village is optional, and visitors can choose the Jeju Folk Village Museum.
Discover West Jeju
Hallim Park - A popular tourist spot in Jeju, Hallim Park hosts monthly flower events. A highlight in spring is the Hallim Park Tulip Festival, showcasing various tulip species like Apeldoorn, Shirley, Kees Nelis, Barcelona, and Pink Diamond. Visitors can also enjoy bibimbap garnished with colorful tulips.
The Ma Park - As the world’s first horse-themed park, Raon The Ma Park offers a permanent horse-riding performance, “Empire of Thousand Years. Oh! Goguryeo Dynasty”, based on Jumong, the Goguryeo Dynasty founder. It also provides high-quality horse-riding facilities for all skill levels, offering diverse horse-related activities.
O’sulloc Tea Museum - Opened in 2001 on Jeju Island, the Osulloc Tea Museum is Korea’s first tea museum. In 2013, the Osulloc Tea Stone was added, providing visitors with various tea experiences and cultural activities.
Yongmeori Coast - Yongmeori Coast is a volcanic beach formed by ash from explosive eruptions when hot magma met cold seawater. A narrow path leads to the beach, where a sandstone cliff can be seen. Its name, Yongmeori, meaning “dragon’s head,” reflects its resemblance to a dragon poised to dive into the sea. Access may be restricted during high tides or bad weather, with Mt. Songaksan as an alternative tour option.
Sanbangsan Mountain - Sanbangsan, a 395-meter-high dome-shaped, craterless volcano, derives its name from a natural stone cave in the mountain. Inside the cave, known as Sanbanggulsa Temple, is a Buddha statue. Legend says water drops from the cave ceiling are tears of love from the goddess protecting Sanbangsan’s stone walls.
Songaksan Mountain - If Yongmeori Coast is closed due to high tides or bad weather, Mt. Songaksan serves as an alternative tour option.
Cheonjeyeon Falls - Known as “The Pond of God,” Cheonjeyeon Falls has three sections. Around the falls, diverse plant life thrives, including the rare ‘solimnan’ reeds. To the east, a cave releases cold water from the ceiling, creating the first waterfall. The water collects in a pool, then cascades twice more, forming the second and third waterfalls before flowing into the sea.
Explore South Jeju Island
Mysterious Road (Dokkaebi Road) - Mysterious Road gained fame in 1981 when a honeymooning couple saw a car in neutral roll uphill. Over the years, it has attracted many foreign and domestic tourists.
Daepo Haean Jusangjeolli Cliff - Formed when Mount Hallasan’s lava flowed into the sea, the cliff resembles black columns of varying sizes and heights, reminiscent of charcoal. It’s fascinating how they formed naturally. Patience is needed for photos, as the platform is crowded.
Alive Museum - A Tricky Theme Park featuring five optical illusion experience themes: Trick Art, Digital Art, Sculpture Art, Provence Art. Visitors enjoy a special and exciting experience through these unique themes.
Teddy Bear Museum Jeju - Since opening in 2001, teddy bear enthusiasts have another destination to enjoy and cuddle with the world’s most iconic plush toys. The museum offers a wide range of themed exhibits, including Seoul History, 100 Years of Modern History, Arts, World Travel, and more.
Oedolgae - Oedolgae Rock, standing 20 meters high, is the first sight when viewing the rocks around Namju’s Haegeumgang River and the Seogwipo Chilshipri Coast. About 2 km west of Seogwipo City, Sammaebong Parasitic Volcano and Oedolgae Rock, formed by a volcanic eruption 150,000 years ago, stand on a beautiful shore. As a strong rock shaped by wave erosion, it is called a sea stack. Pine trees are regenerating at the island’s peak.
Jeongbang Waterfall - Jeongbang Falls is the only waterfall in Asia that flows directly into the ocean. On the waterfall’s wall, an inscription reads “Seobulgwacha,” referring to Seobul passing by this location.
