  The Leshan Giant Buddha, also referred to as the Dafo or Lingyun Giant Buddha, is a renowned Buddhist cultural heritage site situated in Leshan city, Sichuan Province, China. It is globally recognized for its immense size and historical significance.

Carved into a cliff face overlooking the confluence of the Minjiang, Daduhe, and Qingyi Rivers, the Leshan Giant Buddha was constructed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) by a monk named Hai Tong. His intention was to pacify the turbulent waters in the area and safeguard travelers.

Standing at an impressive height of 71 meters (233 feet), it is the largest carved stone Buddha in the world. The statue’s shoulders measure 28 meters (92 feet) across, and its smallest toenail is spacious enough to seat a person.
