Half a day tour of Soweto with Monga Marc Mbayo. - We had an amazing half a day tour of Soweto with Marc, he took us around the Soweto township and explained the history of the place and day to day life of people living there. Very eye opening and learning experience for our kids. We finally ended our tour with the Hector Peterson museum and street where Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu lived. Had lunch in an amazing restaurant Sakhumzi which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Real - We had originally been going to book this tour with City Sightseeing as an extension to the Hop on Hop Off ticket, but I'm so glad we chose MoAfrika instead. The difference here is whether you wish to see the tourist sites of Soweto, or have an eye opening visit to one of the communities and see and learn a little of how they actually live. Tshepo supplied an extensive history on South Africa on the drive which was really interesting. He showed us both the Middle Class and Informal settlements. We stopped in Motsoaledi for a short walking tour with a local lady who took us into the kindergarten, and the children sang for us. It was heart breaking to see what little they have, but they still seem happy. We also visited the Hector Peiterson Museum and Nelson Mandela's house on Vilakazi St. Vilakazi st is a high tourist area, so full of people and stalls selling souveniers and young men dancing & singing for tips. I was glad that our Tshepo escorted us to & from the Museum and we didn't have this 'touristy' experience. So, if you want to see a part of the REAL Soweto, go with MoAfrika!

Mind opening - From the pickup to the drop off everything was seamless. The guide Mdu was a fount of knowledge about Soweto and South Africa. I learned so much. I was also impressed by Wendy who took me to a school in Soweto where the kids sang a song for us. Highly recommend this tour.

Eye opening and heart filling - It was so informative and so well done, felt safe but still able to see what so many have to go through every day. Carson was so kind and helpful. He was so knowledgeable and able to answer every question we asked.

Fabulous tour! Very safe! Very informative! Highly recommend! - What a great tour! Our guide, Topelah (spelling may be wrong), was very knowledgeable not just about Johannesburg and Soweto, but of South Africa as a whole. His English was clear, and he had a great sense of humor. He was also a good driver. We felt safe the whole time and enjoyed the tour immensely. It was a great way to spend the time we had before our evening flight. I highly recommend!

Must do tour - exceptional guide. - I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Mdu was thoughtful, considered and informed as well as being a genuinely kind and friendly person. He was able to answer all of our questions and showed us a side of Soweto we didn't know existed. He gauged our interest and made sure to focus on those things, as well as bringing our attention to things we would have overlooked so we could see the complexity, history and potential in this amazing part of Johannesburg. I am really grateful for his expertise and considered guidance.
