Great tour to understand complexity of inner city Johannesburg and support a great local project - Really challenging and fascinating tour of an area with such a complex and contested history. I came with a group of colleagues who had recommended Dlala Nje as a great local project for community building and they are doing amazing work. This is a tour that is simply not possible unless you have a knowledgeable and helpful guide like Delight. It was impressive the amount of engagement with the wider community that they clearly went to, working with different groups of local people and supporting local children through activities, clubs, and safe places to exist. It is well worth coming to see a place that is a microcosm of so many issues in Johannesburg and to support an organisation that is trying to do good work in a very challenging situation.

Wonderful and insightful experience - I went for "This is Hillbrow" trip - I think it was one of the best experiences of my trip in South Africa. It helped me to understand what I see rather than just just observe. Hillbrow is still a troubled area, but DlalaNje shows the life in it. Throughout whole trip, I felt really safe and well taken care of. If you are uncomfortable with driving to the meeting point, you can get in touch with DlalaNje and they can pick you up from the entrance to the Ponte Building.

An experience you won’t get anywhere else - You will hear stories and get impressions that you will never get elsewhere. It’s a crazy place with a crazy important history. And a must see as it is reality for so many people. Make use of the knowledge of the local guides.

Hillbrow …. Please go see for yourselves - My partner lived in Hillbrow in the 80s.. so interesting to see and understand how and why it has changed so much. I’d thoroughly recommend this tour. Our guide ( Alvaro) was really knowledgable and so personably. A wise head on young shoulders. This is a charity that supports young kids after school clubs etc to ensure their safety and education. Please support them. We travel a lot and this is one of the best local tour trips we’ve ever done.

Respectful tour of downtown Johannesburg with locals - This tour is a great example of how conscious tourism can benefit both locals and tourists. We have learned so much about Hillbrow, the area and the history. Our guides have made this tour very memorable with their first hand knowledge of the area. That the proceeds directly help funding and supporting local initiatives is a very positive aspect of this tour. At no point of the tour have we felt unsafe. The guides were always around us and we even had a great conversation at the end of the tour while enjoying a drink and food with an amazing view of the skyline. If you are in Johannesburg, take this tour!

Great example of conscious tourism - Very informative tour trough one of SA’s most intriguing neighborhoods. A big part of the ticket price is invested in educational projects for local children, build on the principle of give (funding) and take (an experience you can’t get on your own, photos, etc.). The type of tourism we should all support!

Insightful - I spent a great couple of hours hearing about this fascinating area. The guides were wonderful and this tour gives you a warts and all view of the challenges and solutions these people encounter.

A must for every visitor to Johannesburg - We spent more than three hours with staff from Dlala Nje exploring Hillbrow and the Ponte Tower. The history lesson, information, walking tour with a local lunch was very interesting, informative and a pleasure. Exploring this area with Dlala Nje was a highlight of our trip and we left with a real understanding and appreciation of the people who live and work in this city. What made it more special was that the contributions for the tour went to the extraordinary work Dlala Nje staff organise for their local community.

Well run and informative - The tour was very well organised with a good amount of content, without being overwhelming. As an unfamiliar international tourist, it also felt safe at all times. Delight was a great guide. A very friendly and relaxed guy, and he answered all of the group's questions well.

You can safely enjoy the Hillbrow. - Before joining the tour, I was afraid to be honest because I had heard in Johannesburg that the moment you go out you are in danger. But in fact, the tour guides and the local residents gave us a warm welcome, so it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words. Especially, I thought that the guide was a beloved person because he was greeted by so many people in the town. The view from the tower and the column cavity in the parking lot are superb, so I recommend it.
