Insightful - I spent a great couple of hours hearing about this fascinating area. The guides were wonderful and this tour gives you a warts and all view of the challenges and solutions these people encounter.

A must for every visitor to Johannesburg - We spent more than three hours with staff from Dlala Nje exploring Hillbrow and the Ponte Tower. The history lesson, information, walking tour with a local lunch was very interesting, informative and a pleasure. Exploring this area with Dlala Nje was a highlight of our trip and we left with a real understanding and appreciation of the people who live and work in this city. What made it more special was that the contributions for the tour went to the extraordinary work Dlala Nje staff organise for their local community.

Well run and informative - The tour was very well organised with a good amount of content, without being overwhelming. As an unfamiliar international tourist, it also felt safe at all times. Delight was a great guide. A very friendly and relaxed guy, and he answered all of the group's questions well.

You can safely enjoy the Hillbrow. - Before joining the tour, I was afraid to be honest because I had heard in Johannesburg that the moment you go out you are in danger. But in fact, the tour guides and the local residents gave us a warm welcome, so it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words. Especially, I thought that the guide was a beloved person because he was greeted by so many people in the town. The view from the tower and the column cavity in the parking lot are superb, so I recommend it.

An incredible experience - As first time visitors to Joburg, we were very cautious about where to go and what to do safely? Tours of Soweto appeared under most searches, but we stumbled across this 3hr walking tour of Hillbrow deep in the heart of the city. We would have most likely skipped this due to our safety concerns if the reviews weren’t so good? When we first arrived in an Uber at the Hillbrow Tower, the area was quite confronting and very raw. But we were immediately met by two guides and from there we felt extremely comfortable and safe. This is the true working area of this incredible multicultural city. What made this even more special is that the community puts so much emphasis on the kids and giving them a safe area to go, learn and to keep them off the streets. Proceeds of this tour goes to helping them. We often take for granted what we have! The tour takes you through the streets of abandoned and hijacked buildings, streets that have been gutted for their wealth, walls with Gumtree type adverts, towers of prostitution, local street flea markets to the Hillbrow Tower, its security, the basement and the 51st floor with incredible views and a local lunch. We cannot recommend this experience enough! Go try and be part of an experience that learns, understands and your outlook on this part of the city will be changed? You won’t regret it? Thank you for sharing your story and your part of the world…

- What a great experience! The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable as we were a little out of our comfort zone. Remember to take a little cash to spend at the various street vendors. The produce looked super fresh. We felt safe at all times. The day/tour ended with a delicious lunch and a mind full of good, positive memories.

Everyone who visits Johannesburg should take this tour! - I can't recommend this walking tour enough. Depending on who you talk to, you'll get a wide spectrum of opinions about the safety and culture of Johannesburg, but the only way to really experience it is by immersing yourself in a tour like this. Our group was slightly anxious going into the tour in terms of safety, but the guides Delight and Mbongiseni were amazing in making us feel comfortable e.g. meeting us at the entrance gate when we got lost, waiting with us at the end of the tour until our taxis arrived. This tour really changed my perceptions of what inner city Joburg was like, and I learnt so much interesting information. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to South Africa in terms of cultural experiences. It was also really cool seeing the view of the city from the top of the tower, as well as the view from the very bottom looking up. Unique and meaningful experience that everyone visiting Johannesburg should do.

Well looked after - We arrived 20mins late but the guys waited for us and helped us catch up with the tour. Delight and Mbongiseni also stayed with us at the end making sure we got a Bolt and requesting a refund for me on a cancelled trip as well. They showed us around the neighborhood they were very welcoming and it felt like being shown around by friends with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. It didn't feel like they were trying to push or sell anything but really open to telling us about their experiences growing up in the area and the difference influences that make the area what it is today as well as in the past. We felt safe the whole time and the energy of the street was just people going about their daily business, some a little curious about us. We really enjoyed the trip and are really glad we picked this one you can see that the money from tours goes back into helping the community.

Best tour in joburg - Was super nice too see the part of joburg everybody warns you about. Felt safe the whole time and it really helped to prove me wrong about my misconceptions about the area. Would recommend for everybody but especially locals to get out of comfort zone. The tour guides were very nice and the views in the penthouse in Ponte Tower were amazing!!!!
