Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Joe Slovo, Albertina Sisulu, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, and Fatima Meer all spent time here, along with tens of thousands of ordinary people over its 100-year history. The precinct confined men and women of all races, creeds, ages, and political agendas, including children, representing the history of every South African.

- Apartheid Museum - Hop Off / Hop On here. The Apartheid Museum, opened in 2001, is recognized as the leading museum globally addressing 20th-century South Africa, focusing on the apartheid narrative.
The museum, the first of its kind, depicts the rise and fall of apartheid. An architectural consortium, including several top architectural firms, designed the building on a seven-hectare site. The museum is an excellent example of design, space, and landscape, offering the international community a unique South African experience.

- Newtown - Hop Off and on here to visit Sci Bono or Museum Africa. In the early 20th century, the Newtown Precinct was known as “the Brickfields.” In 1896, around 7,000 people resided in the town.
Various industries developed at Brickfields, including trade firms, banks, brick factories, a brewery, and fisheries. Immigrants from other nations also settled in Brickfields.
In April 1904, Mahatma Gandhi declared an outbreak of the bubonic plague in Brickfield. The plague resulted in 82 fatalities, and 112 people were reportedly diagnosed with it. The local government initiated the fire brigade to start fires within the town to halt the plague.

The Joburg Zoo houses over 320 species of animals, totaling about 2,000 animals. It is open to the public 364 days a year, including Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter holidays. The formation of a Historical Research Committee that same year ensured the preservation of documents and military memorabilia, laying the foundation for the establishment of a museum.
