If you’re only interested in sightseeing, this may not be the right choice. This is a place where samurai hone their mind and body — a center of strength in Bushido. Here, participants will embark on their initial journey as a samurai.
Kendo translates to “the way of the sword” in Japanese. It originated as the samurai’s method for training in swordsmanship, involving the use of armor and bamboo swords. In the samurai’s world, where a single blink could lead to death, even the smallest mental distraction could be fatal — thus, they also trained their minds.
Participants will start with an introduction to kendo’s history, philosophy, and rules. They will learn proper etiquette and then train in the three essential elements of kendo: spirit, sword, and body in harmony. They will practice striking techniques, engage in real sparring matches, and observe the instructor’s master-level skills in an authentic kendo bout.
This experience is for those who genuinely aspire to take their first step toward becoming a samurai. Each step into this dojo is a step into the way of the warrior — awaken your strength in Bushido.
