Lyme Regis - Begin the day with an exclusive fossil hunting experience on the beach led by Jonathan Evans, a geologist and Trustee of the Lyme Regis Museum. Engage in a discussion with your expert guide about Mary Anning, the remarkable Victorian fossil collector.
Lyme Regis - Reassemble in the early afternoon for a guided coastal walk to view Mary Anning’s statue, including a visit to the Cobb, the Lyme Regis Harbour Wall, and the iconic setting of the film “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” featuring Meryl Streep, as well as the recent Netflix film “Persuasion.”
There is an option to visit the Lyme Regis Museum; entry fee is not included.
Corfe Castle, Kingston Church, Durdle Door, and Lulworth Cove
Corfe Castle - Enjoy a private guided tour of Corfe Castle with our local expert. Constructed by William the Conqueror, it was among the first stone castles in England, strategically placed to guard one of the few gaps in the steep Purbeck ridge that spans Dorset.
Wareham - The next stop is a brief journey to Kingston Church, known as ‘the Cathedral of Purbeck,’ which John Betjeman described as ‘gleaming with Purbeck marble.’
Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door - Lulworth Cove is a stunning geological wonder, a horseshoe-shaped cove sculpted from the cliffs. Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch formed from rocks approximately 140 million years old. Stair Hole features rock layers folded into an extraordinary formation known as the ‘Lulworth Crumple.’
The Etches Collection - Conclude the tour with a visit to the Etches Collection museum, home to the impressive fossil skull of a pliosaur, meticulously extracted from the cliffs above Kimmeridge Bay in 2023.
