- Royal Palace of Kandy - The Royal Palace of Kandy served as the royal residence for the Sinhalese monarchy of the Kingdom of Kandy in Sri Lanka. King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha was the last monarch to reside here until his overthrow by the British in 1815, aided by Kandian chieftains. The palace was part of a larger complex that included the King’s Palace, Royal Audience, Queen’s Palace, King’s Harem Quarters, and Queen’s Bathing Pavilion, along with the Temple of the Tooth, which housed the Buddha’s tooth relic. One of the top attractions in Kandy is the Royal Botanical Garden, and tourists may also go to a tea factory and a plantation to learn more about the cultivation of tea.
