Uganda Equator - At 6:00 am, the driver guide will collect guests from their hotel in Kampala for an 8-9 hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. There will be a stop at the Equator, offering a unique chance to stand in both hemispheres simultaneously and capture memorable photos. The guide will demonstrate the water test experiment, illustrating how water drains differently in the northern and southern hemispheres compared to the Equator. The journey continues to Mbarara Town for a lunch break.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - The trip proceeds to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned as the premier location in Uganda for tracking mountain gorillas. The park is home to approximately 40% of the world’s mountain gorilla population, with several habituated groups. It is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, boasting 350 recorded species, including many Albertine Rift endemics. Bwindi is a pristine rainforest located on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley, characterized by a series of ridges and valleys covered in dense, impenetrable forests. The park features one of the most diverse floras in East Africa, with 10 tree species found nowhere else in the country. Upon arrival at the park, guests will proceed to their accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
Gorilla Tracking Adventure
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - After an early breakfast at the lodge, the driver guide will transport guests to the Park Headquarters for an 8:00 am briefing on the rules of gorilla tracking. Following the briefing, equipped with trekking gear, drinking water, and a packed lunch, the driver will drop guests at the starting point to trek the gorillas alongside ranger guides in the dense jungle. This activity can last between 2-8 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements. The jungle is vibrant with rich forest sounds. Once the gorillas are located, guests will have one hour to observe them.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - After lunch, guests can enjoy an evening community walk among the Bwindi indigenous natives, the Batwa people, who lived in the Bwindi forest before it was designated a National Park. This walk offers insights into their life and culture as forest dwellers. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at the previous lodge.
Return to Kampala
Kampala - Guests will depart their lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest after breakfast and travel back to Kampala, with a stop for lunch along the way. Arrival in Kampala is expected in the late afternoon, followed by a transfer to the hotel. This marks the end of the Gorilla Trekking Tour.
