Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park - Enjoy breakfast before leisurely driving to Fort Portal via the Mubende-Mityana road, with lunch along the way. Arrive at the vibrant and charming town of Fort Portal. The national park boasts one of Uganda’s most diverse tropical forests, home to 70 mammal species and 13 primate species. After lunch, take a walk to the Bigodi wetland, which hosts over 200 bird species, including Hornbills, Turacos, Parrots, Cranes, Kingfishers, and many other swamp endemics. The sanctuary is home to 8 primate species, such as the Black and White Colobus, Red Colobus, Red Tailed Monkey, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, L’hoest Monkey, Vervet Monkey, and the Blue Monkey.
Chimpanzee Tracking, Queen Elizabeth National Park
Kibale National Park - Today’s adventure begins with a briefing at the Kanyanchu trailhead, where you will spend half a day tracking chimpanzees. The activity starts at 8:00 am, involving a half-day search for chimpanzees and other primates, including phoestes, Red-colobuses, Blues, Red-tailed, and grey-cheeked mangabeys, as they swing through the dense forest. You’ll also encounter birds, butterflies, and many small insects. The guide will provide detailed insights into the forest’s primates, fauna, and flora. After tracking, the journey continues south to Queen Elizabeth National Park (a 3-hour drive). QENP features a diverse ecosystem with beautiful savannas and fertile wetlands, home to big game, 10 primate species, and numerous bird species.
Game Drives, Boat Cruise
Kazinga Channel - After breakfast, embark on a game drive through the Kasenyi sector, keeping an eye out for Albert endemic birds, Cape buffalos, elephants, waterbucks, leopards, spotted hyenas, and various antelope species. Enjoy lunch at the lodge, then take a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This trip offers the chance to see possibly the highest concentration of hippos, with many animals drinking at the water’s edge. The launch cruise provides an excellent platform for photography, bird watching, and game viewing. The vibrant bird life is both colorful and impressive, with over 550 resident species.
