This rainforest spans approximately 300 square kilometers (120 sq mi) or 30,000 hectares (74,000 acres) in Uganda’s Buikwe District, situated between Lugazi and Jinja. Protected as Mabira Forest Reserve since 1932, it is a sanctuary for many endangered species, including primates. Mabira Forest is the nearest and sole rainforest in Central Uganda, located just 50 kilometers from Kampala. The stunning trees, plants, flowers, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and small mammals make it an ideal escape from Kampala for a few hours.
