Upon reaching downtown Kanchanaburi, the first stop is to honor the Prisoners-of-War at the Allied Cemetery, who lost their lives during the construction. This well-kept cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 7,000 prisoners-of-war who died during the building of the “Death Railway.”
- The Thailand-Burma Railway Centre - Adjacent to the cemetery is the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum and research facility dedicated to showcasing the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway through eight themed galleries.
- River Kwai Bridge - Following the museum visit, a brief boat trip takes guests to the iconic Bridge over the River Kwai. Still operational today, the bridge was frequently targeted by Allied bombing raids in 1945 and was reconstructed after the war. Here, guests board a local train over original sections of the renowned Death Railway. Train rides on the Death Railway provide both scenic and poignant experiences of what was once a region of war camps under Japanese control.
After disembarking, a traditional Thai set lunch is served at a local restaurant before heading back to Bangkok. The return journey takes the quickest route to ensure arrival at approximately 5pm, traffic permitting. Guests are then returned to their booked accommodations in downtown Bangkok, concluding this fascinating day around the River Kwai.
