Those with a passion for archaeology may find it fascinating that the unearthing of Neolithic burial grounds in this vicinity was an unexpected outcome of an accident during World War II. We journey westwards to Kanchanaburi, our first stop being the Museum, a reconstruction of the POW huts that were occupied during their imprisonment. Exhibits in the museum include an assortment of documents and photographs, all products of POW held captive by the Japanese during World War II. We follow this with a brief boat ride to the famous bridge atop the River Kwai where we board a train.

Alighting the train near the Burmese border, we pause for lunch. Our return to the urban area is on a bus, with our last destination being a War Cemetery, the final resting place of allied troopers who succumbed while constructing the railway.
