• Kandy - Arrival at the village is expected around 9:00 am. Heeloya is an isolated agricultural village nestled in the hills of the Central Highlands. It has minimal interaction with the outside world and is largely self-sufficient. The villagers’ food supply comes from paddy fields, homegrown vegetable gardens, farm animals, and a nearby river. They also cultivate their own spices and herbs and engage in crafts like toddy tapping and beekeeping. The village upholds its traditional customs, including justice being administered by the village head rather than the central judiciary system.
  Upon arrival, visitors will be introduced to the village elder, who will share insights into the village’s traditional customs. A farmer will guide visitors to the paddy fields and explain the step cultivation method. This technique optimizes the use of sloped land and ensures that rainfall benefits all crops equally. Most paddy fields in Heeloya are cultivated using this method. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, where they can assist in harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables for lunch.
