The sanctuary offers excellent opportunities for panoramic photographs of Kandy city, as well as sightings of butterflies and mammals that approach closely. Endemic animals like the toque macaque, jackal, porcupine, and mouse deer are commonly seen. Additionally, the jungle supports 460 species of plants, including lianas, shrubs, herbs, and small plants.

This garden has an exclusive collection of avifauna. Other than that, it is one of the beautiful bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. The sanctuary contains three Buddhist forest monasteries and three cave dwellings for Buddhist monks & the sanctuary acts as a catchment area for the supply of water to the city of Kandy. This is a great place to explore the bird life where approximately 80 species of birds can be seen.
