- Qijin - Cijin Lighthouse was established following the signing of the Convention of Peking in 1860 during the Qing Dynasty. Takau Harbor opened to international trade in 1863, leading to increased shipping activity. To address the need for a navigation system, British engineers constructed a Chinese-style rectangular red-brick lighthouse atop Mount Ki-au on the harbor’s southern side. During Japanese rule, the lighthouse was reconstructed in 1916 as part of harbor expansion efforts and renovated in 1918 to its current appearance, featuring a Baroque-style base. In 1985, it was designated a Historical Building and made accessible to the public.
- Qijin - Cihou Fort’s initial fortifications were built in 1720 under the Manchu-led Qing Empire of China. Following the Japanese expedition in 1874, the Qing authorities erected a modern fort, equipping it with new Armstrong guns in 1880. It did not participate in the Sino-French War, as the conflict in Taiwan centered around Keelung, and French ships did not approach the port during the blockade.
- Qijin - Strolling through Cijin Island Old Street offers a delightful experience, with authentic seafood restaurants available for lunch.
- Great Harbor Bridge - Situated next to the Pier-2 Art Center, the Great Harbor Bridge is Taiwan’s first horizontally rotating landscape bridge and the longest cross-harbor rotating bridge in Asia. It completes a horizontal rotation in just 3 minutes. The bridge opens and closes daily at 3 pm and additionally at 7 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It accommodates pedestrians and cyclists, linking the Pier-2 Art Center and the Zhan-2 Warehouse, two popular attractions, and is currently a trendy tourist route.
*Bridge rotation time: 3:00 pm every day
- The Pier-2 Art Centre - Located on the north bank of Asia New Bay Area, where the Love River meets Kaohsiung Port, the Pier-2 Art Center embodies Yancheng’s history and serves as a cornerstone of Taiwan’s Cultural and Creative Corridor. The center has revitalized Kaohsiung’s cultural allure and lifestyle as a port city. It attracts a vibrant community, fostering creativity through performances and events that showcase Kaohsiung’s unique character and innovative spirit. These activities form the backbone of Kaohsiung’s cultural and creative industries, with the center exuding boundless energy and enthusiasm, ensuring its competitive edge.
- Hamasen Museum Of Taiwan Railway - Originally Kaohsiung Port Station, the Hamasen Railway Cultural Park has been transformed into the Takao Railway Museum. This site preserves Taiwan’s only century-old railway station with a functional railway. In addition to the museum, there is a vast green space featuring a striking bridge, reconstructed from a 38-year-old structure. Extending from the Pier-2 Art Center to the Railway Culture Park, it has become a favorite destination for both locals and international visitors.
- Kaohsiung - Instead of the typical tourist night markets, visitors can explore one of Kaohsiung city’s local night markets, frequented by residents for lunch and dinner.
