• Karuizawa Church - Established in the 10th year of the Taisho era, the “Karuizawa Kogen Church” emerged in Karuizawa, a city rich in Christian culture, as the venue for the “Art Free Education Seminar.” This seminar is a place for the pursuit of a truly enriched soul, fostering conversations among attendees, making it particularly popular among cultural enthusiasts. Since 1965, wedding ceremonies have been held here, and it is renowned as a church where non-Christians can wear wedding dresses. • Stone Church - The Karuizawa Stone Church “Uchimura Kenzo Memorial Hall” is a notable building inspired by the thoughts of Japanese Christian thinker Uchimura Kenzo. It features a chapel on the ground floor and the Uchimura Kenzo Memorial Hall underground. Designed by American architect Kendrick Kellogg, it boasts a unique design of overlapping stone bricks and glass arches. Kellogg is renowned for his “organic architecture,” which uses natural materials without artificial processing. This distinctive design in Karuizawa’s beautiful natural setting has received high praise. The phrase “The place where you pray is the church” reflects Uchimura Kanzo’s ecclesiastical philosophy, so this church lacks a cross.
