- Karya Vinayak Temple - This half-day tour offers a glimpse into the traditional architecture and vibrant culture reminiscent of the medieval era. Visitors will observe men, women, and children engaging in weaving, chatting, playing, and working in the sunlit streets and communal courtyards. As you stroll through the streets, you’ll encounter numerous skilled wood carvers and sculptors selling handcrafted items at attractive prices. Many artisans work from home and may offer additional items for sale. Women often spend their free time weaving, knitting, and sewing by hand. However, the village is particularly renowned for its woodcarvers, whose exceptional skills are evident.
In the chowk surrounding the temple, you can witness the essence of a thriving Newari town. Numerous chortens and a large prayer wheel highlight the area’s diverse religious traditions. Between Bungamati and Khokana lies the Karya Binayak Temple, dedicated to Ganesh. The views from this location are breathtaking, offering a panorama of the Bungamati valley and the foothills.
Throughout this quaint village, a prominent 3-story temple dedicated to the local mother goddess, Rudrayeni Mai, stands out. A similar temple to the northeast of the village is utilized during epidemics.
