Kathmandu to Phakding (2652m/8699ft) Duration: 3 hours
Phakding - The early morning flight to Lukla is an unforgettable experience. The airfield is at a high elevation, with a remarkable 60-meter difference between the runway’s ends. Trek to Phakding through a captivating green landscape with views of Kusum Kangraru.
Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11283ft) Duration: 6 hours
Namche Bazaar - Follow the Dudh Koshi River, ascending through Himalayan pine and cedar forests, to the renowned village of Namche Bazaar. Namche is a historic trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchange salt, dried meat, and textiles. Besides being a wonderful place to shop for traditional crafts, Namche remains the central trading post in the Khumbu, attracting Himalayan and lowland merchants. Spend two days in Namche for acclimatization, visit local markets, and spend time with your team. On the hike, capture your first glimpses of Everest and neighboring peaks.
Namche Bazaar and Everest View Hotel
Everest View Point - This day is dedicated to acclimatization. Hike to Syangboche Airport (3700m), considered the highest airport in the world, then continue to Everest View Hotel for stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache, and more. On the way back, visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery.
Namche to Dole (4200m/13776ft) Duration: 5 hrs
Irish Pub - The trail is easy at first up to Kyangjuma, then climbs steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forests, which give way to fragrant stands of juniper and large conifers as the elevation increases. This trek is especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. The trail passes many Kharkas, summer settlements used when Sherpas bring herds of yaks to graze in these high pastures. The route passes through the settlements of Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) to Dole, where there are a few hotels. The views of Khumbila and Tawache (6542m) are incredible throughout the day!
Dole to Machhermo (4400m/14432ft) Duration: 5 hrs
Gokyo Lakes - Climb a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and up towards Cho-Oyu (8201m). Beyond the ridge, the valley widens as the trail passes through Pangka at (4390m), then descends to the riverbank before beginning the climb onto the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. It’s a steep climb up the moraine, switchbacking alongside the stream to the first small lake at (4650m), where a family of green Brahminy ducks resides.
Hike to Gokyo RI (5360m/17880ft) Duration: 4 hrs
Gokyo Ri - Wake up early and climb to Gokyo-Ri for a panoramic view of the Mahalangur Himalayan range. It takes approximately 2 hours to reach the top of the peak, offering a panoramic view of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Tawache, along with a great view of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal.
Trek back to Namche
Namche Bazaar - The trek from Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri follows a downhill path as you look back towards Cho Oyu. Enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, interactions with local Himalayan flora and fauna, and the blooming rhododendron trees in spring. While descending the valley, there are opportunities to view the snow-capped Himalayan peaks of Amadablam, Tawache, Thamserku, and others, along with a distant view of Tengboche from Mongla. Continue the journey, descending towards Sansa, which connects to the main Everest trail leading to Namche Bazaar. Upon arrival at Namche Bazaar, take a complete rest, enjoy a free shower at the hotel, and relax at your quality overnight stay in Namche.
Trek back to Lukla (2800m/9184ft) Duration: 7 hours
Lukla - Enjoy souvenir shopping in Namche Bazaar. Every Saturday, a large marketplace takes place here where various goods and gear, especially trekking and climbing-related, are traded. From Namche, follow the same route downwards that was taken during the ascent. Cross the Dudh Koshi River multiple times over suspension bridges, reaching the ground level of the Himalayas at Jorsale. The surroundings become greener and denser as you descend to lower elevations, making breathing easier. After passing another checkpoint while exiting Sagarmatha National Park, cross Phakding, and after a few hours of walking with quick stops, arrive at Lukla. Stretch your legs and celebrate the successful completion of the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri adventure in the Everest region of Nepal.
