Arrival in Kathmandu
Kathmandu - Upon arrival, you will be smoothly transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. This day is dedicated to final preparations and a gentle introduction to the area. In the evening, there will be a meeting to discuss the upcoming adventure. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is rich in cultural heritage and surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Your main task tonight: stay well-hydrated and enjoy a restful sleep.
Fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and Trek to Phakding (2,800m)
Phakding - The journey begins with a 45-minute to 1-hour helicopter flight to Lukla, offering breathtaking aerial views before landing. The trek starts gently, with a 3 to 4-hour walk alongside the rushing Dudh Koshi River. This trek serves as a moving meditation, helping you gradually adjust to the higher altitude, following the river and crossing several iconic bridges. Phakding is a quaint village where you will spend the night. Take it easy, breathe deeply, and acclimatize.
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar (3,440m)
Namche Bazaar - The trail becomes steeper, turning into a true climb that takes about 5-6 hours to reach the iconic Hillary Bridge. The trail gains approximately 830 meters in altitude, so it’s important to pace yourself and take breaks. Namche Bazar, the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region, with shops, cafes, and a small hospital, serves as the gateway to the high Himalayas. Listen to your body, control your breathing, and eat wisely. Stay hydrated and rest well.
Acclimatization day at Namche Bazar. Hike to Hotel Everest View and Back (3,880m)
Syanboche - Today is a strategic pause in Namche, allowing your body to acclimate to the thinner air. Following a “climb high, sleep low” strategy, hike up to Hotel Everest View—a brief ascent to 3,880m that strengthens your acclimatization. The hike is approximately 8 kilometers round-trip and offers views of Everest and other peaks. You can also explore the shops and museum in the evening or simply rest. Drink plenty of water, be aware of your surroundings, and inform your guide if you feel unwell.
Trek from Namche to Tengboche (3,867m)
Tengboche - A steady 5-hour climb leads to the sacred grounds of Tengboche. The well-trodden path winds through hamlets, culminating at its revered monastery—time your arrival with the monks’ evening prayers for a truly transcendent experience. Lodges offer warm meals and basic rooms. The views from here include Ama Dablam and other majestic peaks, providing a serene backdrop for the night’s rest.
Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410m)
Dingboche - Embrace the stark beauty of a 5-6 hour climb to Dingboche, an 11-kilometer trek gaining about 540 meters in altitude. As the trail ascends, trees begin to disappear at higher altitudes. Reaching Dingboche, a small village with several lodges, serves as a vital staging post for further altitude gain in the coming days. Drink plenty of water and allow your body to adapt.
Acclimatization in Dingboche
Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,940m)
Lobuche - Today’s journey is a solemn and steady climb, approximately 7 kilometers, taking 4 to 5 hours. The trek gains about 530 meters over rugged and rocky terrain. The path passes through the Thukla memorial site, a poignant sanctuary honoring those who lost their lives on Everest. Lobuche is a simple outpost with small lodges. Rest here as the cold begins to bite, so wear warm clothes. Rest often and watch for signs of altitude sickness.
Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,164m) and hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364m)
Everest Base Camp - Today is the day you’ve been waiting for. Head to the final outpost of Gorak Shep, drop off heavy bags, and embark on the final 4 kilometers to Everest Base Camp in over 2 hours. The path is rocky and stark. Here, at the foot of the world’s highest mountain, witness the Khumbu icefalls; this moment is to be savored, not rushed. Then, return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Trek to Kalapathar (5,545m) and back to Kathmandu via Helicopter
Helicopter Landing At Kalapathar - Wake up early and climb to Kalapathar. The first golden light on Everest’s face is simply breathtaking. During the descent, take care of your knees and use a trekking pole if available. Back in Gorakshep, reflect on the sunrise and head back to Kathmandu, enjoying the helicopter ride. Bid farewell to the Everest region. The flight is scenic, offering final glimpses of the Himalayas. Upon arrival at the domestic airport, drive back to your hotel; your mind will surely still be among the peaks.
