Guided Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Boudhanath Stupa - Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this massive stupa attracts thousands of pilgrims daily who perform a ritual circumnavigation of the dome under the watchful eyes of the Buddha, which gaze from the gilded central tower. It is one of the few places where Tibetan Buddhist culture is openly accessible, with the surrounding lanes filled with monasteries and Buddhist life essentials.
Swayambhunath Temple - This Buddhist stupa, believed to be 2000 years old, features a stunning architecture of a gilded spire and a whitewashed dome, adorned with thousands of fluttering prayer flags. The spire displays four faces of Buddha looking out in all directions. The structure is symbolic: the white dome represents the earth, the nose-like shape below the eyes is the Nepali number ‘one’ symbolizing unity, and above is a third eye representing Buddha’s insight. The 13-tiered beehive-like structure at the top symbolizes the 13 stages to achieve nirvana. The base is surrounded by prayer wheels that pilgrims spin as they pass.
Pashupatinath Temple - This pagoda-style Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is considered a powerhouse of Hindu spiritual energy. Located amidst lush greenery on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple is 6 km from Kathmandu city and a short distance from Tribhuvan International Airport. Non-Hindus cannot enter the main temple but can view it from the east bank of the River Bagmati. Pashupatinath is a focal point for annual pilgrimages during Shivaratri in February/March. Behind the temple are cremation grounds.
Kathmandu Durbar Square - One of three royal palace squares in the Kathmandu Valley, this site was the royal residence until the 19th century and hosted important ceremonies, including the coronation of Nepalese monarchs.
Journey to Chitwan and Village Tour with Tharu Dance
Chitwan Tharu Village - After a 5-hour drive, we arrive at our hotel in Chitwan National Park for a two-night stay. After freshening up, we embark on a village tour to a nearby ethnic Tharu village to learn about the Tharu lifestyle and visit the National Park Visitor’s Center to learn about the park’s history and wildlife. Enjoy a sunset view from the Rapti River bank.
Sauraha Tharu Culture House - In the evening, enjoy and participate in a Tharu cultural dance performance by local villagers.
Activities in Chitwan
Chitwan National Park - After breakfast, enjoy a canoe ride along the Rapti River, offering excellent bird-watching opportunities and sightings of rare crocodile species like the Marsh Mugger and the fish-eating Gharial, followed by a jungle walk.
Chitwan National Park - After lunch, embark on a Jeep Safari, providing a chance to see various animals such as deer, rhinoceros, wild boar, monkeys, leopards, sloth bears, and the Royal Bengal Tiger.
Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Birethanti
Birethanti - An early morning wake-up call is followed by breakfast and a drive to Nayapul, the starting point of our trek. Today’s walk follows the river upstream past rice paddies, cultivated fields, and forests of alder and mimosa to Birethanti.
Trek to Ulleri
Ulleri - Today, cross the Burungdi Khola and undertake a steep climb to Ulleri.
Trek to Ghorepani
Poon Hill - This morning, ascend Poon Hill (about an hour’s walk above Ghorepani) to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himals. As the sun rises, the sky glows red and pink, offering one of the world’s most stunning mountain vistas. Best viewed at dawn, the climb is well worth the effort.
Ghorepani - After breakfast, head east along a forested ridge to cross a pass at 3,193m. The trail descends through dense forests of fir, spruce, oak, and rhododendron, home to many birds and some mammals. Passing through Banthanti at 2,620m, climb back to 2,745m to reach another small pass at Tadapani, offering superb views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare.
Trek to Ghandruk
Old Gurung Museum - Enjoy an easier walk today through beautiful uninhabited forests with stunning mountain views. This forest is a trek highlight. Look out for monkeys and high forest birds like Tragopan, Juniper Finch, and Rosefinches. Emerge from the forest above Ghandruk, the largest Gurung village in the area. This region is mainly populated by subsistence farmers who cultivate the carefully laid-out terraces. These terraces, stretching down steep hillsides, are a work of art, with Nepalis expertly utilizing every piece of land. Wheat, rice, and vegetables are grown year-round on these well-tended terraces. While Ghandruk now has many modern lodges, traditional houses with neat slate roofs remain. In the afternoon, your leader will guide you on a village walk, and in the evening, relax in the teahouse and watch the sunset on Annapurna South.
Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara
Pokhara Lakeside - Descend on stone staircases towards the Modi Khola, passing through Shyauli Bazaar to reach the charming village of Birethanti, where lunch is enjoyed overlooking the river. A short walk brings us to Nayapul, where we meet the road and drive back to Pokhara. This afternoon, explore the picturesque lakeside of Pokhara. Consider a boat trip on the lake to spot water birds or relax in one of the many lakeside cafes.
Drive to Kathmandu
Thamel - Today, drive to Kathmandu for 7 hours along the Trishuli River. Spend the last evening in Kathmandu with a farewell dinner, sharing photos, recalling trip highlights, exchanging emails, and enjoying a cultural dance program at a traditional Nepalese restaurant.
