Pharping, located 19 km south of Kathmandu in Nepal, is renowned as the sacred site of Yangleshö, significant in both Hinduism and Buddhism. It is here that Guru Padmasambhava (also known as Guru Rimpoche, the lotus-born deity who propagated Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet) achieved the Mahamudra vidyadhara level. Other notable religious sites include the Vajrayogini temple, Shesnarayan temple, Gorakhnath temple, and the self-manifested Ganesh near Asura Cave. Further south is the Dakshinkali temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, where devotees offer chickens, goats, sheep, and more as sacrifices to the goddess. Dakshinkali is famed as a fierce incarnation of Goddess Parvati, the consort of Shiva. It is believed that the Buddhist deity Manjushree carved out the hill at Chobhar to drain the waters and create habitable land, establishing an underground palace at Taudaha Lake for all creatures, including serpents, to reside. This area is an ideal spot for a tranquil retreat.
- Please note that the bloody river and temple of Goddess Dakshinkali may be distressing to some visitors
