Journey from Kathmandu to Dhap (2850m | 9348ft, 7-8 hours by jeep)
Pikey Peak - Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before embarking on your journey from Kathmandu. Today marks the beginning of your Pikey Peak trek, with a scenic drive to Dhap Bazaar as the first leg. As you travel alongside the Sunkoshi River, you’ll witness a stunning transformation in the landscape. Nepal’s lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and terraced rice fields paint a picturesque scene of rural life. Keep an eye out for charming small towns and immerse yourself in the local culture. Upon reaching Dhap Bazaar, a quaint village at 2850 meters, you’ll settle into a cozy teahouse for the night. Once settled, take a stroll through the town market, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and soak in the unique atmosphere.
Trek from Dhap to Jhapre (2820m | 9249ft, 6 hours)
Pikey Peak - After breakfast, the trek to Pikey Peak continues. As you leave Dhap, be on the lookout for the majestic Number Himalayan range ahead. The snow-capped peaks will glisten in the distance. The journey will take you through forested landscapes and traditional villages. The initial part of the trek from Sigane is made easier by a new road. The path then transitions into a typical Himalayan mountain road, winding through breathtaking terrain. Eventually, you’ll arrive at a village offering spectacular views of the Everest and Numbur Himal mountains. This charming village will be your home for the night, providing a comfortable rest before the next day’s adventure.
Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp (3640m | 11939ft, 6-7 hours)
Pikey Peak - After breakfast, continue along the Pikey Peak Trekking Trail, ascending a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. You’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Everest Range. The trail splits just before Bhulbhule, leading you right towards Pikey Peak. Along the way, you’ll encounter a long mani stone wall and ancient yak houses. The path meanders through a beautifully wooded area along the slope contour down Taklung Danda. In spring, the trail is adorned with blooming rhododendron trees. After leaving the forest, it takes about two hours to reach Pikey Peak base camp. Upon arrival, relax in the tea houses or tented camps and explore the surroundings.
From Base Camp to Junbesi (2700m | 8856ft, 3-4 hours)
Pikey Peak - After breakfast, begin your descent along the ridge. You’ll pass through meadows and woodlands before reaching Taktor for lunch. The trek continues on a wide gravel road to Junbesi. Consider visiting the Buddhist Monastery before arriving in Junbesi. The village, inhabited by Sherpa, Magar, and Tamang communities, features beautifully decorated tea houses and a Buddhist stupa. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by rivers, vibrant monasteries, and snow-capped hills. As the trek concludes, you’ll have a variety of tea houses to choose from, providing a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Rest Day: Visit Thupten Choling Monastery (3031m | 9941ft) and Return to Junbesi Village (2700m | 8856ft, 5-6 hours)
Pikey Peak - While the stunning views of Junbesi may tempt you to spend the entire day there, consider a short trip to Thupten Choling Monastery. Enjoy a brief hike around the monastery or explore other Everest viewpoints. Known as one of Nepal’s largest and most renowned monasteries, it predominantly houses female monks. Visitors can tour the kitchen and gain insight into the monastery’s interior. The monks are welcoming and friendly, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2413m | 7914ft, 4-5 hours)
Pikey Peak - After a delightful breakfast, continue along the Pikey Peak Trekking Trail, crossing the Junbesi Khola Suspension Bridge. Eventually, you’ll reach the impressive 90-meter-long suspension bridge over the river, leading to Beni Ghat. The journey to Phaplu is anything but monotonous, offering numerous picturesque scenes. The route is captivating and engaging. In Phaplu, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the Sherpa way of life, participate in local festivities, and enjoy traditional food and drink.
Drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu (1400m | 5493ft, 8 hours)
Pikey Peak - After breakfast, embark on a group jeep ride from Phaplu to Kathmandu. Departing early in the morning, the drive takes approximately 8 to 9 hours. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transported to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and explore. Whether you choose to unwind at the hotel or experience the vibrant nightlife of Thamel, the choice is yours.
