Asura Cave is a revered site for Guru Rinpoche, situated above the village of Pharping, near Kathmandu, Nepal. It is also referred to as the ‘Upper Cave of Yangleshö’. On the upper left side of the entrance, there is a handprint embedded in the rock.
There is a Tara and Ganesh statue believed to be self-arising, not carved by humans, and over time it has grown larger and more distinct from the rock.
- Vajrayogini Temple - This temple, dedicated to Vajrayogini, is located on the hillside between the Yanglesho caves and the town of Pharping. It is one of the principal Newar Buddhist Vajrayogini temples of the Nepal mandala, which includes the Sankhu Vajrayogini, Vidhyeshvari Vajrayogini, Phamting Vajrayogini, Guhyeshwari, and the Pulchowk Khagayogini temples.
It is believed to have been founded by the Pamtingpa brothers, two significant disciples of the Buddhist mahasiddhas Naropa and Maitrepa. The current structure likely dates back to the 17th century and has undergone renovations.
- Asura Cave, Pharping, Dakshinkali, Nepal - The Sesh Narayan Temple is one of the four Narayana temples in the Kathmandu Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The other three are Icchangu Narayan, Bishanku Narayan, and Changu Narayan. These temples, positioned in the four cardinal directions, are thought to have been constructed during the reign of the Licchavi king Vishnugupta.
- Pharping Road - The impressive 40-meter-high statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), built in 2012, overlooks the monasteries of Dollu and Pharping.
