Ussangoda National Park - Ussangoda is a unique coastal area due to its lack of trees. Its serpentine rock contains toxic heavy metals, allowing only specific smaller plants to adapt to the soil. According to Ramayana legends, there are two more explanations for Ussangoda’s barrenness. After meeting Sitadevi, Lord Hanuman provoked King Ravana and his Rakshasa army, resulting in Hanuman’s tail being set on fire by the Rakshasas. Hanuman then torched parts of King Ravana’s empire with his burning tail, and Ussangoda is said to be one of these scorched areas. Additionally, legend has it that the Ussangoda plateau was once used as an airport by King Ravana for his Dandumonara peacock chariot before Hanuman destroyed the landing site.
