Journey to Mgahinga National Park

Uganda Equator - Guests will be collected from their hotel in Entebbe or Kampala by our knowledgeable driver guide, who will provide a briefing about the trip and ensure all necessary gear and paperwork are in order. The journey to Mgahinga National Park in southwestern Uganda will include stops at Mpambire, where visitors can observe the traditional craft of drum-making from skins and wood. The trip will continue to the Equator crossing and then to Mbarara town for lunch at either Agip Motel or Igongo Cultural Center, depending on the available time. After lunch, a picturesque drive to Kisoro district awaits, featuring the flat lands of Ntungamo, the rolling hills of Kabale, and the terraced hills with winding roads leading to Kisoro District. Arrival will be in time for a brief relaxation, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Gorilla Trekking Adventure

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - Following an early breakfast, guests will be transported to the Mgahinga National Park headquarters, arriving in time for a briefing. Passport details will be checked to confirm eligibility for mountain gorilla trekking. A UWA ranger will then provide a briefing on the guidelines, dos and don’ts, and instructions for the trek, interaction with the gorillas, and post-trek procedures. Guests will then embark on a forest trek to locate the mountain gorillas. Mgahinga National Park is home to the Nyakagezi family, the only habituated mountain gorilla group, which now resides permanently in Uganda after previously moving between Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and Mgahinga National Park. Upon locating the Nyakagezi Family, guests will have the opportunity to spend one hour with the gorillas before returning to the lodge for an overnight stay.

Return to Kampala for Departure

Kampala - After breakfast, guests will travel back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for their late departure flight, concluding the memorable 3-day Mgahinga gorilla trekking safari.
