• Buzludzha Monument - At 08:00, the guide will pick up the group from their accommodation in Plovdiv for a roughly 2-hour drive to the first destination, the Buzludzha Monument, a significant site from the socialist era. After an approximately 3-hour scenic journey, the group will arrive at the Buzludzha Monument, which was constructed in 1981 to honor socialism. The project began in 1974, with the Bulgarian Army and numerous artisans contributing to the creation of large statues and murals. Following the government’s fall in 1989, the site was abandoned and subjected to vandalism until recently. The monument has been restored thanks to the dedicated efforts of many volunteers, artists, and experts from Bulgaria and other European countries.
• Dimitrovgrad - Following the remarkable visit to the Buzludzha Monument, the group will descend from the mountain and head towards Dimitrovgrad, one of the few towns established during the Communist era. This charming town features beautiful parks and typical Communist monumental architecture. A walk through the center will allow visitors to experience the ambiance of that period.
• Air Museum Plovdiv - The next stop is the Museum of Aviation, located on the grounds of Plovdiv International Airport. It showcases a diverse collection of aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters, and transport planes. A highlight of the museum is the MiG-21, a key aircraft of the Bulgarian Air Force during the Cold War, which is in excellent condition. Visitors can even climb into the cockpit to experience what it was like to fly such a powerful machine. The museum also boasts an impressive collection of helicopters, including the iconic Mi-24 Hind attack helicopter. Additionally, there are interactive exhibits and displays offering extensive information about the history of aviation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Air Force’s role in world history, along with an exhibition dedicated to the Space program. After this fascinating visit, the group will return to Plovdiv, where the guide will drop them off at their preferred location in the city.
