According to legend, ‘Lang’ is derived from the Malay word ‘helang’, meaning eagle, and ‘Kawi’ refers to marble. The presence of eagles soaring high and the abundance of marble lend some credibility to this tale.
Dataran Lang, commonly referred to as Eagle Square, honors these magnificent birds of Langkawi. This iconic statue is situated on the southern part of Pulau Langkawi, near the Kuah Jetty. Eagle Square features an impressive 12-meter tall statue of a red-backed eagle perched on a blue star-shaped platform. It is flanked by forest-covered mountains on one side and the open Andaman Sea on the other. With its wings spread wide, the eagle of Dataran Lang appears ready to take flight.
- Durian Perangin Waterfall - Durian Perangin Waterfall is a hidden treasure in Langkawi, Malaysia, nestled in the island’s northeastern region near Tanjung Rhu. This captivating 14-tiered waterfall flows through lush rainforest, providing visitors with a peaceful retreat featuring crystal-clear pools and refreshing natural showers. The lower tiers are easily accessible, perfect for swimming and picnics, while the more adventurous can hike to discover the secluded upper falls.
For those seeking extra thrill, ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) tours are available at an additional cost, allowing travelers to zoom through rugged jungle trails and scenic paths around the waterfall area. This exhilarating add-on combines the tranquility of nature with an adrenaline-pumping adventure, ideal for explorers who want the best of both worlds. Whether relaxing by the falls or racing through the wilderness on an ATV, Durian Perangin offers an unforgettable Langkawi experience.

For those eager to explore the island’s rich natural heritage, a mangrove boat ride (at your own cost) is a must-try experience. Glide through the ancient mangrove forests of Kilim Geoforest Park, a UNESCO-listed site, where you’ll encounter exotic wildlife like eagles, macaques, and otters, while admiring dramatic karst formations and hidden lagoons.
