Reykjanesbær
Keflavík International Airport - Enjoy a complimentary shuttle service from Keflavik International Airport or a hotel in Keflavik town to the CampEasy office, just a 5-minute drive from the airport.
Bridge Between Continents - Begin today’s itinerary with a visit to the Reykjanes peninsula. The first stop is the renowned Leif the Lucky (or Miðlína) Bridge between continents, where you can stand between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
Gunnuhver Hot Springs - Spend some time exploring this geothermal area, featuring steam vents, hot mud pools, and a stunning landscape shaped by the minerals in the ground. Enjoy the vibrant hues on steaming surfaces with the Reykjanes lighthouse in the background. This is a must-see destination!
Kleifarvatn Lake - The largest lake on the Reykjanesbær peninsula, Kleifarvatn, is also one of Iceland’s deepest lakes, reaching nearly 100 meters in depth. The water comes from the porous lava ground around it and is home to many fish, especially popular with anglers! The lake reflects Iceland’s beauty in its simplicity, with lava ground covered in places by thousand-year-old moss.
The Golden Circle and Waterfalls
Thingvellir National Park - Þingvellir National Park is the first stop on the famous Golden Circle route. It is not only a geological wonder where Öxará waterfall (or Öxarárfoss) and Silfra Fissure were formed by the continental drift, splitting the earth’s crust at various locations, but it is also an important historical and political site. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visiting the park is free, but there is a parking fee, which is not included in the tour price.
Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Baths - Join a Rye Bread tour at 11:45 AM, where the dough is cooked by geothermal heat right in the ground, and you can taste it! Then, relax in the warm waters of Fontana Bath, offering a panoramic view of the lake.
Geysir - Next, visit Geysir, where the geyser Strokkur shoots a warm water column up to 15 meters in the air. Geysir is the second stop on the famous Golden Circle route.
Gullfoss Falls - Complete the Golden Circle with a visit to the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, which dramatically drops into a narrow gorge from 32 meters high.
A visit to Friðheimar Restaurant and Farm is also recommended, known for its horse breeding, horse show activities, and tomato farm entirely powered by geothermal energy using biological pest controls. Friðheimar is open for visits and has a restaurant where you can enjoy their tomato specialties. Note that this is only a recommendation, and the admission fee is not included in the tour price. Booking in advance is required, either by email to fridheimar@fridheimar.is or by phone at (+354) 486 8894. If you choose to visit, it will take 1 hour and 30 minutes, including driving time from Gullfoss Waterfall.
Kerid Crater - Next, visit the Kerid volcanic crater, located just a 20-minute drive from Eldhestar. The crater is approximately 3,000 years old and is covered with vibrant colors in the summer. It is a beautiful site in its winter coat, especially when its inner lake catches the sunlight on frosty days. There is a small admission fee to walk up to the crater, which is not included in the tour price.
Seljalandsfoss - Seljalandsfoss is a 60-meter-high waterfall behind which you can walk. It is a very picturesque site and is widely photographed and featured. Note that entrance to the waterfall area is free; however, there is a parking fee, which is not included in the tour price.
Skógafoss - Next, visit the impressive Skógafoss waterfall, fed by the melting waters from Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. This powerful chute offers a unique experience with deafening sounds, water spray, and rainbows as light reflects on the droplets. Prepare to be amazed!
Black Sand Beach - Reynisfjara and Glacier Hike
Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey, or Doorhill Island, is the remains of what was once an island thousands of years ago. The promenade is a 120-meter rock formation with a gaping hole in the middle where ships used to sail through. Today, Dyrhólaey is a top-rated site in Iceland and is home to many bird species.
Reynisfjara Beach - Next, visit Reynisfjara beach and its renowned cliff Reynisfjall. The basalt columns of the cliff wall create a unique atmosphere. You might enjoy sitting on some of them and gazing at the three basalt rock formations standing out of the powerful Atlantic Sea. Legend has it that they are the remains of trolls who tried to reach the shore but were caught by daylight, transforming them instantly.
Solheimajokull Glacier - Experience an unforgettable activity in Iceland: a glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier! Spend 3 hours walking on its surface and learn about its crevasses and fissures, how it was formed, and many more fascinating details.
FlyOver Iceland - FlyOver is a 45-minute unique activity where you explore Iceland right from Reykjavík! Suspended 20 meters above the ground with your feet dangling and strapped in a motion seat, you are in front of a semi-spherical screen where you explore Iceland through a flight simulation. Special effects like wind, scents, and mist add the final touch to the experience.
Reykjavík
Sun Voyager - Depending on your flight departure time, you might want to explore the capital further and see the Sun Voyager, a famous sculpture by the sea symbolizing freedom and hope, Hallgrímskirkja church, whose architecture was inspired by basalt columns in Icelandic nature, or Perlan, a museum and restaurant perched on top of four water tanks. After some time in Reykjavík, head to CampEasy’s office to return your camper! The renowned Sun Voyager sculpture was created by Jón Gunnar Árnason, who aimed to convey a message of hope and freedom through his piece. The statue is placed right by the sea with majestic mountains in the background. It is certainly a sight not to miss!
Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre - Harpa, the music and conference hall, is also inspired by Icelandic nature. Note that entry to Harpa to visit the building is free, but there is a small parking fee, which is not included in the tour price.
Hallgrimskirkja - Hallgrimskirkja church is located close to downtown Reykjavik and the famous Rainbow Street. For a 360° panoramic view of the entire city, consider going to the top of the church. Note that entrance to the church is free, but there is an admission fee if you wish to walk up to the church’s tower, which is not included in the tour price.
Perlan - If you have some time before your flight, consider visiting Perlan, a museum located on top of four water reservoir tanks that supply Reykjavík city. You can participate in the Aurora Show, which reveals all the secrets of the northern lights. If you choose to do so, note that the admission fee for the show and the museum is not included in the tour price.
