Keflavík International Airport - Enjoy a complimentary shuttle service from either Keflavik International Airport or a hotel in Keflavik town to the CampEasy office, conveniently located just a 5-minute drive from the airport.
Bridge Between Continents - Begin today’s itinerary with a visit to the Reykjanes peninsula. The first stop is the renowned Leif the Lucky (or Miðlína) Bridge between continents, where you can stand between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
Gunnuhver Hot Springs - Spend some time exploring this geothermal area, featuring steam vents, hot mud pools, and a stunning landscape shaped by the minerals in the ground. Enjoy the vibrant hues on steaming surfaces with the Reykjanes lighthouse in the background. This is a must-see destination!
Kleifarvatn Lake - Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the Reykjanesbær peninsula, is also one of Iceland’s deepest lakes, reaching nearly 100 meters in depth. The water comes from the porous lava ground around it and is home to many fish, especially popular with anglers! The lake reflects Iceland’s beauty in its simplicity, with lava ground covered in places by ancient moss.
Golden Circle and Waterfalls
Thingvellir National Park - Þingvellir National Park is a highlight of the Golden Circle. It is not only a geological wonder where Öxará waterfall (or Öxarárfoss) and Silfra Fissure were formed by the continental drift, splitting the earth’s crust at various points, but it is also a significant historical and political site. The site visit is free, but a parking fee, not included in the tour price, is required.
Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Baths - Join a Rye Bread tour at 11:45 AM, where the dough is baked using geothermal heat, and you can taste it! Then, relax in the warm waters of Fontana Bath, offering a panoramic view of the lake.
For those interested, a visit to Fridheimar Restaurant and Farm is recommended. Known for horse breeding, horse shows, and a tomato farm powered entirely by geothermal energy using biological pest controls, Fridheimar is open for visits and has a restaurant where you can enjoy tomato specialties. Note that Fridheimar is only a recommendation, and the admission fee is not included in the tour price. Katla Ice Cave - Start the morning with an exciting 4-hour ice cave exploration in a super jeep! The tour begins in Vík in Mýrdal at 09:30 AM and takes you on an amazing journey to Katla Volcano, where the combination of lava and the ice cap showcases nature’s incredible work.
Reynisfjara Beach - Visit Reynisfjara beach and its famous cliff, Reynisfjall. The basalt columns of the cliff wall create a unique atmosphere. You might enjoy sitting on some of them and gazing at the three basalt rock formations standing out of the powerful Atlantic Sea. Legend has it they are the remains of trolls caught by daylight while trying to reach the shore.
Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey, or Doorhill Island, is the remnant of what was once an island thousands of years ago. The promenade is a 120-meter rock formation with a gaping hole in the middle where ships once sailed through. Today, Dyrhólaey is a popular site in Iceland and home to many bird species.
Fjaðrárgljúfur - Fjadrargljufur Canyon is a must-see on the south coast. Its sinuous and dramatic shape, cold river, and occasional sheep grazing make it an incredible site worth the detour! This location was used for a Justin Bieber music video in 2015.
Systrafoss - Drive to Kirkjubæjarklaustur to visit Systrafoss waterfall, a chute from lake Systravatn situated atop the mount in the background. A short hike to the top offers a spectacular view of the entire area. You might also drive 5 minutes further to see Stjórnarfoss waterfall, another picturesque chute.
Skaftafell National Park - Take time to explore Skaftafell National Park with its many walking paths. One leads to the beautiful Svartifoss waterfall, known as the black waterfall due to the dark-colored basalt column formation around it. There is no admission fee to the park, but a parking fee, not included in the price, is required.
