- Avukana Buddha Statue - The Avukana Buddha statue is a remarkable standing figure of the Buddha located near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. This impressive statue, standing over 40 feet tall, was intricately carved from a large granite rock face in the 5th century. It showcases a variation of the Abhaya mudra, with a finely detailed robe. Created during the reign of Dhatusena, it is believed to have been the result of a competition between a master and a student. The Avukana statue is one of the finest examples of ancient Sri Lankan standing statues and is now a popular tourist destination.
- Ruwanwelisaya - Ruwanwelisaya is among the tallest monuments globally, celebrated as a symbol of architectural excellence in ancient Sri Lanka. It stands at 103 meters (338 feet) with a circumference of 290 meters (951 feet). It is also one of the Solosmasthana (16 sacred sites of veneration) and the Atamasthana (eight sacred sites in the ancient city of Anuradhapura), believed to have been visited by Buddha during his three visits to Sri Lanka.
- Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi - The Sacred Bo tree, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, is the oldest living tree in documented history. It is a sapling from the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Planted in 288 BC, it is the oldest human-planted tree with a known planting date. It was brought from Buddhagaya, India, by Ven. Sanghamitta Therini, sister of Arhant Mahinda, who introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka. The area around the Sri Maha Bodhi, the Brazen Palace, and Ruwanweliseya Dagoba was likely part of the Great Temple. The Sacred Bodhi tree has been cared for by a continuous line of guardians for over 2000 years, even during periods of Indian occupation.
- Abayagiriya Stupa - The Abhayagiri Buddhist monastic center (Dāgeba) was established by King Vaṭṭagāmaṇi Abhaya during his second reign from 29–17 BC. Located in Anuradhapura, the then-capital of Sri Lanka, it was a hub of religious and political power. The concentration of monasteries in this area significantly influenced the future of the religion. Abhayagiri Dageba thrived until Anuradhapura was abandoned in the mid-13th century.
- Dagoba of Thuparama - Situated in a picturesque woodland north of the Ruvanvelisaya Dagoba, the Thuparama Dagoba is the oldest dagoba in Sri Lanka and possibly the oldest visible dagoba in the world. Constructed by King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BC, it is said to enshrine the right collarbone of the Buddha. Its original ‘heap-of-paddy-rice’ shape was restored to a more conventional bell shape in 1862, reaching a height of 19 meters.
- Isurumuniya Temple - This delightful rock temple, dating back to the reign of Devanampiya Tissa (307–267 BC), is set around a charming lotus pond, with one corner adorned with carvings of elephants playfully splashing water. The central temple features exquisite mural paintings. Visitors can climb to the rock summit to view the bell-shaped stupa and a pair of Buddha footprints etched into the rock.
