• Lady Wootton’s Green - Walk the path once taken by Queen Bertha, whose significant influence led to the Christianization of Anglo-Saxon England in the 6th century, as she journeyed from the royal palace to St. Martin’s Church. Admire the statues of Queen Bertha and her husband, King Ethelbert.
• St. Augustine’s Abbey - Established in 598, St Augustine’s Abbey was a monastery for St Augustine and his monks upon their arrival in England to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity, and it also served as a burial site for the Anglo-Saxon kings of Kent.
  During the tour, you will have the opportunity to view the site and buildings from various vantage points, including the footprint of the three churches and the most remarkable remaining features, the medieval gates.
  Please note that entry to St Augustine’s Abbey is not included in the tour.
• St. Martin’s Church, Canterbury, Kent - St Martin’s Church is the oldest church in continuous use in England, welcoming worshippers since before 597 AD.
  When Queen Bertha, a Christian, married King Ethelbert around 580 AD, he restored St Martin’s for her to pray in. It was later used by St Augustine and his monks during their mission to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity.

The tour will lead you uphill to St Martin’s Church, involving a steep climb up a series of steps. Please be aware that the churchyard ground is uneven, so sturdy shoes are recommended.

Subject to the church’s opening and service hours, your guide may be able to take you inside St Martin’s. Please note that the church requests a donation of £5 per person, payable upon entry.
