- The White Cliffs of Dover - Begin your journey with a drive to a unique vantage point on the White Cliffs, offering stunning views of Dover Castle, the harbor, the English Channel, and, on clear days, the nearby French coastline.
- Barham - Travel through scenic country lanes and rolling hills to discover several breathtaking villages. Enjoy a drive through the charming wooded hills of Barham, featuring newly planted vineyards and quaint narrow streets. Pass by the 13th-century church of St John the Baptist, with its green copper spire, charming Kent peg-tiled cottages, and impressive valley views.
- Bishopsbourne - Continue towards Bishopsbourne, located within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pass the elegant stately home of Bourne Park, visited by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1865.
- Patrixbourne - Explore the historic village of Patrixbourne, known for its exquisite Norman church. Constructed from flint and stone from Caen, France, this beautiful church showcases French decorative influences. It features a magnificent south doorway in the Norman style and a wheel window at the east end, dating back to the late 12th century.
- Chilham Village - Spend 45 minutes in Chilham, possibly the prettiest village of all. With its stunning 15th-century square, black and white timbered Tudor buildings, Jacobean castle, church, and pub, Chilham has been a filming location for movies like Emma (2009), ‘The Canterbury Tales’, and ‘The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders’; historical dramas such as Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ and ‘Miss Marple’; and detective shows like ‘Dempsey and Makepeace’. Enjoy a 45-minute stop for morning tea and photo opportunities outside Chilham Castle, historic houses, and the charming cobbled square.
- Canterbury Cathedral - After refreshments at Chilham, head to the historic city of Canterbury, home to three UNESCO World Heritage sites: Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine’s Abbey, and St Martin’s Church (the oldest in the country). Spend three hours here, during which your guide will provide a historical overview of the city from Roman times to the present day. Choose to visit landmarks like the Cathedral and castle, explore the enchanting medieval streets and houses, or enjoy a relaxing pub lunch by the River Stour – the choice is yours!
- St. Augustine’s Abbey - As you leave the city center, view the second of the city’s most important World Heritage landmarks - St Augustine’s Abbey. Founded shortly after St Augustine arrived in Kent in AD597 to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity, the abbey served as a residence for Augustine and his fellow monks and functioned as a monastery. It was also a ‘missionary school’ where classical knowledge and English learning thrived. Among its library of illuminated manuscripts, only 150 survived the English Reformation and the dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538. One of these – the ‘Canterbury Gospels’ – survived from AD597 and was used in the recent Coronation of King Charles III.
- Lady Wootton’s Green - As you exit the west end of the Abbey, pass two statues depicting King Ethelbert and Queen Bertha on Lady Wootton’s Green. These figures represent the individuals most responsible for welcoming Augustine into Canterbury and enabling him to establish the foundation for Christianity throughout the country.
- St. Martin’s Church, Canterbury, Kent - As the tour departs the outskirts of the city, take the opportunity to observe the country’s oldest surviving church, St Martin’s, dating from around AD597. Originally a chapel used by Queen Bertha, it later became a base for Augustine. View structures from Roman, Anglo-Saxon, and Medieval periods.
- Wickhambreaux - Head back towards the coast, passing through several picturesque villages for brief photo stops. First, visit Wickhambreaux, with its delightful medieval village green surrounded by the church, manor house, rectory, inn, and mill. Stop for photos at the 13th-century church of St Andrews, where WWII Dambuster Squadron Leader David Maltby was both married and later buried after his death in 1943. Another notable resident of Wickhambreaux was Christine McVie, singer and musician of Fleetwood Mac.
- Ickham - Depart for neighboring Ickham, featuring attractive white weatherboard cottages, charming listed buildings, and a 13th-century church.
- Wingham - The penultimate stop is along the ancient coastal road and village of Wingham, with many buildings dating back to the 1200s, including the Grade II listed ‘The Dog Inn’. These special locations offer opportunities to capture lasting memories of everything quintessentially and authentically Kent.
