Tsavo National Park West - Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
The driver/guide will collect guests from their beach resort or hotel on the Kenya coast. They will embark on their journey in a 4 x 4 along the Malindi-Mariakani-Mombasa Road.
The drive, lasting approximately 4-5 hours, will be smooth on a well-maintained tarmac road with stops for refreshments along the way. Upon arrival at Tsavo West National Park, one of Kenya’s largest parks, visitors will be greeted by vibrant colors – golden fields, green hills, and the white clouds set against a deep blue sky.
This park offers stunning visuals – wild baobab trees, dark volcanic lava beds, and striking oases.
The group will venture onto the savannah in search of both large and small game – the park is home to the “Big Five,” including a significant elephant population.
A unique feature here is a special rhino sanctuary. The group will visit this area to observe these magnificent yet elusive creatures in the late afternoon, as the park cools and the nocturnal rhinos begin to appear.
TSAVO WEST – AMBOSELI (100 km – Approx. 2.5 hrs)
Tsavo National Park West - Safari days start early to enjoy the morning light alongside wildlife. As animals hunt for breakfast, the group will “hunt” for them, marking the start of the first game drive of the day.
Later, the group will explore one of the park’s unique spots, Mzima Springs, a lush oasis nourished by millions of gallons of crystal-clear water. They will explore on foot along the raffia-shaded shores, getting close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, colorful fish, and migratory birds.
This oasis is a haven for the park’s thirsty animals, so visitors may also spot monkeys, baboons, and others frequenting this nourishing spot.
Soon, it will be time to head to the next national park, Amboseli. The short 2-hour drive will be marked by the appearance of the mighty Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance.
AMBOSELI – TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK (260 km – Approx. 4 hrs)
Tsavo National Park East - The group will rise with the sun for an early morning game drive to observe the wildlife. This is the best time to view Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, its majestic peak overlooking the park.
After a hearty safari breakfast, the group will continue game watching as they exit the park and travel along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway to Tsavo East National Park.
Upon entering Tsavo East, with its vast horizons and wild, rugged grasslands, visitors will feel they have discovered a piece of Africa’s history. As one of Kenya’s oldest parks, it is the legendary home of the famous and fierce Tsavo lions and other big game.
The open landscape makes animal spotting a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Visitors can look for lions, leopards, Cape buffalo, and the park’s great red elephants, named for their habit of rolling in the rusty-colored soil.
Take a moment to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us.
TSAVO EAST – MALINDI/WATAMU (160 km – Approx. 2-3 hrs)
Tsavo National Park East - Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch
The group will rise early to maximize their game viewing time. Traveling over the open savannah is an exhilarating experience, and there’s nothing like the first animal sighting of the day.
They will visit the park’s renowned watering holes – these are captivating spots, made even more appealing by the sight of numerous animals drawn to the life-sustaining waters. Visitors can look for zebra, giraffe, as well as eland, impala, and some of the park’s 500 bird species.
Lunch will be served at an al fresco restaurant offering stunning views of the plains and savannahs of Tsavo East.
