Nairobi to Amboseli
Amboseli National Park - Begin the day early with a drive to Amboseli National Park. Upon arrival, check into the accommodation and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive. Amboseli National Park is located directly south of Nairobi, featuring a dry, ancient lake bed and delicate grasslands interspersed with acacia woodlands. The southern region is dotted with small, rocky, volcanic hills. Around the swamps of Ol Kenya, Ol Tukai, and Enkongo Narok, the landscape is lush with yellow-barked acacias and phoenix palms.
Amboseli Full Day
Amboseli National Park - Start the day early to capture stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds gather over the summit. A packed lunch is provided, and an optional visit to a Masai village can be arranged after breakfast. This visit offers insight into the singing and dancing integral to their daily life and sacred rituals. A look into their homes and social structure provides a meaningful experience. Despite its evolving habitat, Amboseli National Park is arguably the best place in Africa to observe elephants up close. Less troubled by poachers, elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps are a highlight of any safari.
Amboseli to Naivasha
Lake Naivasha - Set off early in the morning for Lake Naivasha, the highest and most picturesque of the Rift Valley lakes. At 1910m (6200ft), the lake’s fresh waters are bordered by dense papyrus clumps, which were historically used by ancient Egyptians to make paper. Kingfishers perch on the papyrus, while herons hide within it as they hunt for food.
Naivasha is a renowned spot for bird watching, with over 400 species recorded. It is also a popular weekend getaway for Nairobi residents who enjoy sailing, water skiing, and fishing. The lake’s cold waters, due to its altitude, are inhospitable to crocodiles, but hippos are present. Along the lakeshore, vineyards produce grapes for the country’s budding wine industry.
Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara National Reserve
Maasai Mara National Reserve - Depart early in the morning for Maasai Mara National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. The Mara remains one of the few places where wildlife continues to thrive in numbers reminiscent of Africa’s past. As the northern extension of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara is home to the spectacular seasonal migration of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and their predators.
Maasai Mara Full Day
Mara River - After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. The reserve is famous for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife, and it’s one of the few places where the Big Five can be seen during a morning game drive.
Many cheetahs are so accustomed to humans that they seek shade under vehicles and some even climb onto roofs for a better view of potential prey. For bird enthusiasts, nearly 500 species have been recorded, including 16 species of eagles, numerous hawks and falcons, 6 species of vultures, 8 species of storks, 4 species of bustards (including the Kori bustard, the world’s heaviest flying bird), and 9 species of sunbirds.
Maasai Mara to Nairobi
Maasai Mara National Reserve - Enjoy a morning game drive in the Mara, followed by an afternoon transfer to Nairobi, arriving around 5 pm.
