DAY 1: Nairobi to Lake Ellis - 9 Km
Mount Kenya National Park - Upon arrival, guests are treated to a delightful array of snacks prepared by the chef, followed by a hearty lunch. Post-lunch, the hike to Lake Ellis (camp) begins, traversing through the enchanting Hargenia forest and tussock grass. A stream is crossed before passing a fisheries station on the right, all under the canopy of beautiful Hargenia trees. After an hour of moderate walking, the forest gives way to moorland, with the Road End camp about an hour away. Along the trails, hikers can enjoy views of Mugi Hill and the Giant Billiard Table. The route includes a visit to River Nithi and Nithi Falls on the way to Lake Ellis.
A short walk is taken to get acquainted with the surroundings. Return to the campsite for a bonfire moment. Dinner is served, and guests can retire for sleep at their convenience.
DAY 2: Lake Ellis to Mintos - 14 Km
Mount Kenya - After breakfast, the journey continues through heather and golden moorland. After 30 minutes, hikers reach a stream that feeds into the Nithi Falls, where water bottles can be refilled during the first break. The path then ascends from the valley, bidding farewell to Lake Ellis. After 2-3 hours, the intersection of the traditional Chogoria route and the current path is reached, serving as the lunch break point. From here, there is a glimpse of Lake Michaelson.
Following lunch and a restful break, the hike resumes along the main trail to Mintos Camp, branching off to the left after 20 minutes. The path gently ascends to the camp. If the mountain is not obscured, the two main peaks, Lenana and Batian, are visible. An early dinner is served in the evening, and guests retire to their tents to rest and prepare for an early morning summit.
DAY 3: Mintos to Point Lenana (4,985m) to Old Moses Camp - 20 Km
Mount Kenya National Park - The pre-dawn summit attempt begins at 03:00 am, with a three-hour hike to Point Lenana (4,985m), the hiker’s summit, arriving in time to witness the African sunrise. The descent to Shipton Camp follows for breakfast. After breakfast, a five-hour descent via Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) begins. The gentle descent allows ample time to enjoy the captivating scenery, including the moorlands, before reaching the camp.
DAY 4: Old Moses to Sirimon Gate and Drive to Nairobi - 7 Km
Mount Kenya National Park - After an early morning breakfast, a four-hour descent to the Sirimon Park gate is undertaken, followed by travel to Nairobi. This route exits through the Nanyuki side, having entered the mountain via the Chogoria side.
